Rescue drives applied in continuous traffic cable railways have not been a common solution. The main reason for this is the ability to ensure effective evacuation of passengers by traditional methods, i.e. by way of rescue teams and methods known as evacuation from heights. This is mainly a result of usually convenient location of the cableway system on site and easy access to the vehicles (cars), both from the ground level and as well as the overhead driving cable or route pylons. In case of the Solina gondola cableway access to vehicles (cars) in the manner mentioned above, at the prevailing section of the route is impossible or extremely difficult and even dangerous. Hence, the passenger evacuation concept by means of the rescue drive, in case of damage to the main and emergency drives of the cableway in question, has become indispensable and necessary.

Napowietrzne koleje linowe coraz częściej są rozpatrywane jako alternatywa lub uzupełnienie istniejących systemów transportowych w mieście. Metropolie Medellin w Kolumbii oraz La Paz w Boliwii od przeszło dziesięciu lat eksploatują napowietrzne koleje linowe, ponadto obecnie w wielu miastach europejskich trwają dyskusje dotyczące wdrożenia tych systemów w komunikację miejską. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia wyniki analizy porównawczej napowietrznych kolei linowych i szeroko stosowanych środków komunikacji miejskiej. Analiza została wykonana w oparciu o parametry ilościowe i jakościowe, a w jej wyniku wykazano, że koleje linowe powinny być brane pod uwagę w procesach tworzenia lub ulepszania systemów komunikacji miejskiej.

Aerial cableways are being considered as an alternative or complement to existing transport systems in the city. The Metropolitan of Medellin in Colombia and La Paz in Bolivia have been using aerial cableways for more than ten years, and nowadays discussions are ongoing in many European cities regarding the implementation of these systems in public transport. The article presents results of a comparative analysis of aerial cableways and widely used means of public transport. The analysis was made based on quantitative and qualitative parameters. The result of the study is the conclusion that cable cars should be taken into account in the processes of creating or improving public transport systems.

W artykule przedstawiono dyskusję na temat wyboru systemu kolei linowej dla Wojewódzkiego Parku Kultury i Wypoczynku w Chorzowie, która mogłaby zastąpić wyeksploatowaną kolej ELKA. Zamieszczono wyniki wstępnych obliczeń kolei linowych krzesełkowych dla odcinka II kolei (Stadion Śląski - Wesołe Miasteczko) oraz zestawiono główne dane charakteryzujące współczesne rozwiązania kolei krzesełkowych z pojazdami zarówno niewyprzęganymi, jak i wyprzęganymi z liny nośno-napędowej. Podano przykłady wybudowanych w ostatnich latach kolei gondolowych z pojazdami wyprzęganymi w parkach i ogrodach miejskich. Koleje te doskonale nadają się do takich obiektów, jakim jest Park Śląski, spełniając rolę całorocznego środka transportowo-rekreacyjnego.

A discussion on the subject of the choice of the aerial ropeway system for the Provincial Park of Culture and Recreation in Chorzów which could replace the old chairlift ELKA has been presented in the paper. The results of the provisional calculations for the chairlifts for the section II (Silesian Stadium - Funfair) and a list of the main characteristics of the modern solutions of the chairlifts with chairs attached to the carrying-hauling rope by fixed or detachable grips have been published as well. Some examples of gondola lifts with carriers with detachable grips built recently in parks and town gardens were given. These cableways are fitted for such objects like the Silesian Park which could play the role of the yearlong transport-recreation mean.
