Metody hybrydowej kompresji wizji zrewolucjonizowały sposób zapisu oraz transmisji cyfrowego obrazu. Coraz wydajniejsza reprezentacja obrazu torowała drogę do szerokiego wdrożenia multimedialnych systemów kolejnych generacji, jak cyfrowa telewizja, kino domowe czy telewizja w Internecie. Jednak możliwości te nie pojawiły się z dnia na dzień. Są one wynikiem wielu lat badań, ulepszeń już istniejących rozwiązań, ale również wdrażania nowych pomysłów. W artykule przedstawiono skalę tego postępu w ciągu ostatnich dwóch dekad. Poddano ocenie kolejne generacje koderów obrazu, od MPEG-2 do nowej techniki HEVC, zarówno pod względem samych osiągów kompresji, jak również innych cech techniki, których nie sposób pominąć realizując jej wdrożenie.

Hybrid video compression has revolutionized the way of a video saving and transmission. More and more efficient representation of a video paved the way for the broad implementation of multimedia systems of successive generations, such as digital television, home cinema or television over the Internet. However, these opportunities did not appear from day to day. They are the result of many years of research, improvements of existing solutions, but also the implementation of new ideas. The paper presents the scale of this progress over the last 2 decades. It evaluates the successive generations of video encoders, from MPEG-2 to the new HEVC technology, both in terms of its compression efficiency, as well as other technical features that can not be omitted while putting the technology into the market.

Zważywszy, że różne techniki utajniania obrazów są znane od dawna, lecz nie znalazły szerszego zastosowania, być może ze względu na ich mankamenty, w tej publikacji zostaną opisane niektóre rodzaje technik sekretnego podziału obrazów, które już są. Autor ma na celu przeglądnięcie tych technik i ich podsumowanie.

Considering that different techniques of hiding images are known for a long time, but have not found wider application, perhaps because of their shortcomings. In this publication are described some types of techniques secret sharing images that are already in use. The author aims to review these techniques and summarizes their features.

Scalable image coder using base functions dictionary

This paper presents scalable image coder based on Matching Pursuit image decomposition and wavelet transformation. Matching Pursuit algorithm uses dictionaries to decompose image on elementary base functions (atoms). Bi-orthogonal Daubechies wavelet 9/7 filterbank is used to obtain coarse and filtered subimage which can be considered as base layer of coded image.

"Wąskim gardłem" transmisji obrazu i dżwięku w ramach wideokonferencji jest szerokość pasm sieci komputerowej. Przy niemożności szybkiego jej zwiększenia skutecznym narządziem pozwalającym na polepszenie jakości wideokonferencji okazało się doskonalenie metod kodowania i kompresji wymienionych mediów. W artykule przedstawione zostały wybrane techniki kodowania i kompresji obrazu i dźwięku. Przeanalizowano ich cechy oraz określono, które z nich i w jakim stopniu wpływają na jakość wideokonferencji.

A "bottle neck" of audio and video transmission during videoconferencing is a network bandwidth. Because it is impossible to quickly change this situation, the good idea is to improve methods of audio and video coding and compressing to reach better quality of videoconferencing. The purpose of the paper is presenting selected methods of audio and video coding and compressing. After their attributes analysis there is possible to qualify, which of them and how strongly influence on quality of videoconferencing.

Actually, pursuit techniques have become very popular ; in consequence, they have been very used in many signal and image processing works. Matching Pursuit and High Resolution Pursuit are the most representative pursuit techniques. In this work we introduce some image coding models based on these techniques. These models employ an overcomplete dictionary, which has been determined according to a previous knowledge and some performed tests. From such dictionary, the elements corresponding to the most important image structures are selected. The pursuit techniques, by a similarity measure, perform such selection. Coefficients of selected elements are quantized just when they are chosen in order to minimize error propagation along the process. The set of selected coefficients corresponds to an optimal image decomposition, or a new representation with a reduced quantity of elements. A simple reconstruction algorithm recovers the original image with a high visual quality.

A hybrid video codec employing multiresolution vector quantisation of intra-mode frames and DCT-based encoding of inter-mode framers is presented. The performance of the proposed technique is compared to the MPEG-4 video Verification Model version 4.0 and the TMN-2.0 implementation of the H.263 standard. The result show a significant performance improvement both in terms of signal to noise ratio and subjective visual quality.
