This article presents the technical-economic aspect of using frequency converters to control exhaust fans and air-blast fans in the steam boiler, based on example of modernised installation in the thermal-electric power station "Mikołaj" in Ruda Śląska (Poland). In this application, the Danfoss VLT 5000 frequency converters were used. Modernisation allowed to automatise working process of steam boilers by using the internal PID process regulator in converters, which maintains the set value of subatmospheric pressure in the steam boiler and the set value of oxygen in the boiler exhausts.
