Requirements of the modern market impose on the enterprises the need to develop modern organization methods. It is necessary to implement appropriate computer equipment supporting the process of production planning. In systems with piece and small lot production the support may be based on the automation of the planning expert's work. The article concentrates on the issue of creating a knowledge representation method from this scope. The object approach combined with fuzzy modelling was proposed to be used as a solution. Fuzzy logic has been used for the elaboration of the process representation in the approximate evaluation of the planning alternatives. Object techniques have allowed to order the knowledge according to the working method of the planning expert. On the basis of the knowledge representation method an expert system has been developed dedicated to a chosen company. The system consists of the following items: knowledge base, database, inference module, explanation module, user's interface. The application creates and evaluates planning alternatives, on the basis of an established algorithm. It chooses among them these which meet the requirements of realization time of orders and load balance. The final solution is the alternative which provides the highest value of the plan evaluation indicator. The proposed method of knowledge representation is of course a certain simplification of the actual process of production planning. Its use allows elaborating an effective tool which will rationalize to a significant degree the planning expert's work. This kind of system should be extended in the future in order to create a learning application. The solution shall provide an automatic generating or correcting of rules in course of solving planning tasks.
