Since 2009, the National Center for Nuclear Research in Poland has been constructing its own High Performance Computing (HPC) Centre under the name Świerk Computing Centre (CIŚ). Now, it is ready reaching its target - 1 PFLOPS - in December 2015. However at the early operation stage, one of its major problems was the unstable work of the HPC cluster cooling system, resulting in increased maintenance costs. The main aim of this work is to thoroughly investigate the origin of the problem and to find the best solution for it based on results from a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. The constructors suspected that the oscillations in the flow domain are caused by thermal flow stratification, but something else was proved. In this paper, a wide range of cases will be analyzed, covering different work regimes of the installation as well as various geometry modifications. Finally, certain improvement to the current design will be suggested by the CFD Analysis Group.

The work presents a way to execute optimization calculations with the genetic algorithm method on a parallel computer of the cluster type. The scope of electromagnetic calculations which should be performed while determining the objective function was outlined. Sample indicators describing the quality of paralleling the calculation process were provided.

W pracy przedstawiono sposób realizacji obliczeń optymalizacyjnych metodą algorytmu genetycznego na komputerze równoległym typu klaster. Zakreślono zakres obliczeń elektromagnetycznych, które należy wykonać podczas wyznaczania funkcji celu. Podano przykładowe wskaźniki opisujące jakość zrównoleglenia procesu obliczeniowego.

In this paper we present an overview of three Linux-based SSI cluster systems. We compare their stability, performance and efficiency.

The new parallel computer ASGARD has been designed and built in Department of Geophysics of Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection AGH University, which contains twenty dual-core processors. The computer is designed for numerical calculation and mathematical modeling. It works under Linux operating system with OpenSSI clustering system. User can find there installed software like compilators, Matlab, Octave, DORIS and other programs written for special purposes.

W artykule został opisany nowy adaptacyjny algorytm równoważenia obciążeń lokalnie rozmieszczonych serwerów WWW. Na wstępie przedstawione są sposoby równoważenia obciążeń dla klastra serwerów. Następnie opisany jest nowy algorytm równoważenia obciążeń oraz wyniki przeprowadzonych eksperymentów. Na końcu przedstawione są wnioski wypływające z eksperymentów.

This paper describes new adaptive load balancing algorithm for locally distributed web systems. At first we discuss methods, which can be used in order to balance load in cluster of web servers. Next we characterize a new algorithm and preset result of curried out experiments. Finally we discuss results of experiments.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki pomiarów wydajności serwerów WWW pracujących w konfiguracji lokalnego klastra komputerów IBM RS/6000 z równoważeniem obciążeń. Zapytania do serwisu WWW dystrybuowane były pomiędzy poszczególne serwery webowe w klastrze przez system równoważenia obciążeń IBM Network Dispatcher. Badania potwierdziły skuteczność algorytmów równoważenia obciążeń w uzyskiwaniu przez klaster webserwerów wysokiej wydajności przetwarzania zapytań.

This paper presents results from a comprehensive empirical study of Web servers running in cluster configuration with load balancing mechanisms. We also discuss how different attributes of the whole solution, i.e. HTTP protocol, WWW sever design and load balancing strategy influence the system's performance. In particular, we present the result of experiments performed for the clusters of WWW. Apache servers installed on IBM RS/6000 stations under AIX operating systems.

W pierwszej części przeprowadzono analizę prostych oraz złożonych modeli funkcjonalnych skalowanych systemów serwerów webowych. W drugiej części przeprowadzono analizę algorytmów i strategii stosowanych do równoważenia obciążeń w systemach serwerów webowych. Artykuł jest podsumowaniem prac związanych z poszukiwaniem najlepszego modelu do badań nad wydajnością nowych algorytmów równoważenia obciążeń w serwisach WWW.

In this article we presented taxonomy of load balancing systems for Web servers. In first part of this article we presented analyses of functional models of simply and complex scalable web server systems. Second part contains analysis of algorithms and strategies used in load balancing systems for distributed Web servers. This article is conclusion of looking for best model of distributed Web server. This model will be used in research on new algorithm in load balancing system for distributed Web servers.
