Education for Sustainable Development is one of the most important areas of education both in Poland and all over the world. It is not only related to the development of pro-environmental attitudes towards nature, but also to shaping the competences of the future, needed for satisfying functioning in daily life with other people. Social competence deserves attention in this respect and is worth developing in young people from the earliest age - in kindergarten and school. In the contemporary world, where soft competences become important (including the ability to cooperate, work in a team, build healthy relationships or solve various types of problems), shaping and strengthening these competences are key tasks for contemporary teachers. This article points to some interview research results that show both possibilities of using activating methods for teachers in their everyday work with children and youth (so as to prepare them for later life stages) and limitations of using them from the teachers’ point of view.

We współczesnym, globalizującym się społeczeństwie wiedzy zmienia się rola nauczyciela, jego zadania i wyzwania – jednym z priorytetowych celów kształcenia staje się dzisiaj wspieranie harmonijnego rozwoju uczniów poprzez odpowiednie zaplanowanie i realizowanie procesu dydaktycznego. Zawarte poniżej rozważania są rezultatem przeprowadzonych badań eksploracyjnych i stanowią próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie badawcze: W jakim zakresie nauczyciele wspierają w procesie dydaktycznym harmonijny rozwój swoich uczniów? Sformułowane na podstawie analizy wyników badań własnych wnioski stały się podstawą stosownych rekomendacji.

In modern, globalized knowledge society, the role of the teacher, his task and challenges are changing. Therefore, one of the priority aims of the education is to support the harmonious development of pupils – by properly planned and implemented didactic process. The following considerations are the result of exploratory research. The research was an attempt to answer the question: To what extent do the teachers support the harmonious development of their students in the didactic process? The conclusions drawn from the analysis of the results have become the basis for appropriate recommendations.
