The article presents the results of investigations the porosity of the limestone of the Upper and Middle Jurassic. The open porosity was tested on samples cut from the core in the borehole of the P-1 with a depth of 80 m which was drilled in the groundwater intake Łobodno near Kłobuck. For testing were prepared 59 samples from 23 ranges a depth. Examination of open porosity were made using hydrostatic weighing the samples saturated with water in in a vacuum chamber. The tests which were conducted show a large variability of the open porosity of the Jurassic limestone in the vertical profile containing in the range of 4–24%.

The article presents results of laboratory open porosity analysis on 167 Jurassic limestones and marls samples. Samples was taken from five boreholes drilled on the East of the Olkusz Zn-Pb mining region. Statistical methods was used to elaborate of the research results. The mean, standard deviation and maximum and minimum value was calculated. The variability of open porosity with depth was shown on the example of one borehole. Relationship of the parameter in the rock samples taken horizontal and vertical to the bedding was analyzed.

Torcal de Antequera jest przykładem jednego z najlepiej zachowanych krajobrazów krasowych w Europie. Obszar ten budują jurajskie wapienie oolitowe, brekcjowate i okruchowe, bardzo wyraźnie warstwowane i silnie spękane regularnym systemem rozwierających się szczelin. Na względnie niewielkim obszarze (20 km2) wydziela się cztery dobrze zróżnicowane strefy geomorfologiczne. Na powierzchni występuje bogactwo form powstałych na skutek erozji wodnej i eolicznej, a pod ziemią przebiegają głębokie kominy, zawiłe korytarze i rozległe jaskinie. Od 1978 roku obszar Torcal de Antequera został objęty prawną formą ochrony przyrody i zyskał status parku naturalnego; w roku 1989 zakwalifikowany został jako stanowisko naturalne. Obszar ten odznacza się wysokimi walorami geologicznymi oraz bogatym zróżnicowaniem flory (664 gatunki) i fauny (117 gatunków).

The Torcal de Antequera is one of the best-preserved karst landscapes in Europe developed in Jurassic, oolithic, brecciated and detrital limestones. The rock formation is well bedded and cut by a dense, regular fracture system. A relatively small area (20 km2) comprises four distinct geomorphological zones. At the surface visitors can recognize a variety of landforms produced by water and wind erosion whereas underground there exists a labirynth of karst forms: deep shafts, meandering galleries and huge caves. Since 1978 the Torcal de Antequera has been protected as a Natural Park and since 1989 it has become a Nature Site. The park combines a collection of remarkable geological valours and an exceptional biodiversity.

W rejonie Górnośląskiego Okręgu Przemysłowego obserwuje się wśród odbiorców indywidualnych wzrost zapotrzebowania na drobne, kamienne elementy budowlane. Najczęściej w tym celu wykorzystywanym typem skał są obecnie wapienie płytowe jury górnej. Aktualnie w sąsiedztwie GOP nie prowadzi się udokumentowanego wydobycia wapieni jurajskich na potrzeby budownictwa, a całość wykorzystywanego surowca pochodzi z nielegalnie eksploatowanych kamionek, zlokalizowanych między innymi w rejonie Zawiercia. Pomimo stosowania prymitywnych metod eksploatacji i obróbki kamienia skala zjawiska jest znaczna, a sumaryczna wielkość wydobycia może dorównywać produkcji legalnie działającego kamieniołomu. Próby lokalnych władz zlikwidowania nielegalnego wydobycia wapienia odniosły fiasko, co wynika głównie z nieprecyzyjnych instrumentów aktualnego prawa. Rozwój drobnego górnictwa posiada ważny aspekt społeczny, co pozwała wysunąć postulat wprowadzenia takich zmian aktualnego prawa, które stworzą warunki do szybkiego i prostego legalizowania lokalnej przedsiębiorczości w dziedzinie wydobycia surowców mineralnych.

In the Upper Silesian District the increase in demand for small stone elements for building are observed in the group of individual consumers. Nowadays, the Upper Jurassic limestones are the most often used type of stones in this region. At present there is no official exploitation of these rocks for building and all the raw material comes from illegal small quarries localized among others in the Zawiercie vicinity. In spite of using of the primitive methods of output and knobling, the scale of extraction is significant and the total size of production is comparable with the exploitation in some registered open-pits. Because of imprecise law regulations, the preventive actions of the local authorities don't afford satisfactory results. The developing of small local mining has important social aspect so the proposition of introducing of adequate changes in the actual law can be suggested. It is necessary to create possibilities for legalization of small local initiative in the rock mining.
