The article „Principles the protection of the prisoners of war” contains basic information concerning the legal regulations which describe the war prisoners, while in the captivity of the opposite forces. Their legal status is derived from the recognized international law acts such as Third Geneva Convention signed 12th Aug 1949 referring to the protection of the prisoners of war, and the First Additional to the Geneva Conventions signed also in Geneva in 1977 referring to the protection of the victims in the international military conflicts. In accordance to the mentioned above acts, by taking prisoners of war, the state is obligated to provide them with the proper human conditions in the prisoners cams, to secure the proper conditions for the spiritual development and worship as well as for postal communications with next to skin. After the termination of the military activities, the prisoners of war have the inherent right to be repatriated to their homeland. The article has been written based on the current international law regulations.
