The aim of the article is to present a proposal for standardizing the naming of the Quaternary stratigraphic units in Polish and English. Despite the historic changes, most Quaternary stratigraphic names are derived from geographical regions, rivers, towns, and geological sites where sediments of a specific age have been identified. Some names were also adapted from stratigraphic divisions of other European countries. It is common practice to write the names of Quaternary stratigraphic units in Polish in capital letters. However, this contradicts the practice for pre-Quaternary stratigraphic units, which are always written in lowercase in Polish but start with a capital letter in English. In order to comply with standard geological conventions, it is recom¬mended here that the names of Quaternary stratigraphic units are written in lowercase in Polish and in uppercase in English, where possible using the adjectival form (with the -ian suffix) in the latter.
