The subject of this paper is the stability of the Cauchy functional equation f(x · y) = f(x) + f(y) on a semigroup S. A criterion for the Cauchy equation to be stable is proved. Some applications of the criterion are given. In particular, we will strengthen a theorem by Jacek Tabor by removing the assumption that the centre of S is nonempty. This theorem concerns the stability of the Cauchy equation in the Lipschitz norms.

W szczególności, wzmocnimy pewne twierdzenie Jacka Tabora, usuwając zbędne założenie o niepustości centrum S. Twierdzenie to dotyczy stabilności równania Cauchy'ego w normach Lipschitza.

A map M defined on a semigroup (group, Banach space etc.) S and taking values in an Abelian group is called monomial of degree at most n whenever Δny M (x) = n!M (y), where Δny stands for the n-th iterate of the usual difference operator Δy. We are looking for conditions upon a map F from S into a real normed linear space, controlled by ƒ in the sense that || n!F (y) - Δny F(x) || ≤ n!ƒ (y) - Δny ƒ(x), to be uniformly approximated by monomial mapping of degree at most n.

The object of this paper is to obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions characterizing the class (V, Va)reg of infinite matrices and to determine a class of (V,Va)reg- matrices for which qa(Ax) <: q(x) for all należy do m.
