Artykuł prezentuje przebieg i wyniki interdyscyplinarnych badań przeprowadzonych w kościele św. Jakuba w Sandomierzu w latach 2021–2022 przez zespół badawczy w składzie Justyna Kamińska, Małgorzata Doroz-Turek i Andrzej Gołembnik. Badania objęły kwerendę archiwalną, obserwacje in situ oraz wykonanie i analizę cyfrowych skanów obiektu. Przeprowadzone badania pozwoliły na sformułowanie hipotez dotyczących średniowiecznego procesu budowy korpusu nawowego oraz prezbiterium kościoła św. Jakuba w Sandomierzu (w tym ich chronologii względnej), a także na zidentyfikowanie nowożytnych przekształceń budowli, pomijanych w dotychczasowej literaturze przedmiotu. Główne ustalenia to uznanie korpusu nawowego za najstarszą część kościoła, wyodrębnienie kolejnych faz budowy korpusu oraz prezbiterium, częściowo związanych z problemami konstrukcyjnymi napotkanymi w trakcie budowy, a także wyodrębnienie śladów nowożytnych przebudów.

This paper presents the course and results of interdisciplinary research conducted in the Church of St. James in Sandomierz in the years 2021–2022 by the research team consisting of Justyna Kamińska, Małgorzata Doroz-Turek, and Andrzej Gołembnik. The research included archival searches, in situ observations, as well as the creation and analysis of digital scans of the site. The research carried out has made it possible to formulate hypotheses regarding the medieval construction process of the nave and chancel of the Church of St. James in Sandomierz (including their relative chronology), and to identify modern-period transformations of the building, which have been overlooked in previous literature. The main findings include identifying the nave as the oldest part of the church, identifying successive construction phases of the nave and chancel, partially associated with structural problems encountered during construction, and distinguishing traces of modern alterations at the junction of the chancel and the monastery wing.

Czynnikiem warunkującym właściwą ochronę i konserwację dziedzictwa kulturowego jest kompleksowa wiedza o nim. Aby wiedza ta była pełna, potrzebne są również kompleksowe badania konserwatorskie chronionego obiektu. Badania te, mające charakter interdyscyplinarny, stają się podstawowym kluczem do sformułowania odpowiednich wniosków i celów planowanych działań konserwatorskich. Przykładem takiego kompleksowego podejścia do zabytku są badania oraz prace konserwatorskie w Sali Reprezentacyjnej Kamienicy Królewskiej oddziału Lwowskiego Muzeum Historycznego. Przykład ten ukazuje pełną korelację wyników badań i opracowania projektu konserwatorskiego wraz z realizacją konserwatorską. Dzięki takiemu podejściu uzyskano spójną koncepcję w zachowaniu i eksponowaniu odkrytych poszczególnych faz historycznych. Realizacja ta stała się kolejnym przykładem ukazującym potrzebę zaangażowania wielu dyscyplin nauki w proces właściwej ochrony materialnego dziedzictwa. Jest to tym ważniejszy przykład, ponieważ utwierdza nowe standardy konserwatorskie na wschodzie Europy.

Comprehensive knowledge about cultural heritage is a factor that determines its proper protection and conservation. For this knowledge to be complete, comprehensive conservation investigation of a monument is also required. This investigation, which is interdisciplinary in nature, becomes the primary key to formulating appropriate conclusions and objectives for planned conservation measures. One example of such a comprehensive approach to a monument is the investigation and conservation work in the Formal Hall of the Royal House of the Lviv branch of the Lviv Historical Museum. This example shows the full correlation of the results of the investigation and the development of a conservation design and its execution. With this approach, a coherent concept was obtained in preserving and exhibiting the uncovered individual historical phases. The project has become another example demonstrating the need to involve multiple scientific disciplines in the process of proper preservation of material heritage. This is an even more important example, as it solidifies the new conservation standards in Eastern Europe.

Jakość powietrza wewnętrznego istotnie wpływa na funkcjonowanie osób korzystających z zamkniętych przestrzeni. Celem badań było stworzenie prototypu zielonej instalacji mającej korzystnie oddziaływać na mikroklimat pomieszczenia dzięki odpowiedniemu doborowi roślin, a także stworzeniu systemu praktycznie bezobsługowego, działającego również przy niedoborach światła dziennego. W ramach studium literaturowego wytypowano szereg roślin z grupy tzw. oczyszczaczy powietrza. W pracy koncepcyjnej stworzono projekt, a następnie dwa prototypy zielonej instalacji w celu sprawdzenia słuszności założeń. Wykonano analizy mikrobiologiczne powietrza w pomieszczeniu ze względu na fakt, że hodowle roślin stanowią dodatkowe źródło mikroorganizmów w powietrzu pomieszczeń.

Indoor air quality significantly affects the functioning of people who use enclosed spaces. The aim of the research was to create a prototype of a green installation which would have a beneficial effect on the microclimate of a room thanks to an appropriate selection of plants, as well as creating a practically maintenance-free system that works even when there is insufficient daylight. The literature study selected a number of plants from the group of so-called air purifiers. Conceptual work created a design and then two prototypes of the green installation to test the validity of the assumptions. Microbiological analyses of the office room air were performed due to the fact that plant cultures are an additional source of microorganisms in room air.

Many years of archaeological research near Ulów in the Middle Roztocze contributed to the discovery of a multicultural settlement complex, functioning from the Palaeolithic to the 17th/18th century, refuting the existing myth of Roztocze as a white spot on the map of prehistoric settlement. The results of an archaeological research became the basis for the implementation of the project “Roztocze – the ancient terra incognita? (Settlement micro-region in the area of Ulów in Middle Roztocze in the prehistory and its background. Interdisciplinary studies)”. Comprehensive and interdisciplinary research has enabled the reconstruction of settling processes in the micro-region of Ulów in prehistory and in the Modern Age. The main reason for the rise of a multicultural enclave, encompassed by areas devoid of traces of the prehistoric settlement, should be seen in the favourable environmental conditions. Many aspects of the ritual and everyday life of particular archaeological cultures populations recorded in Ulów, do not find analogies in other areas of Poland. A series of several dozen radiocarbon dates confirmed all the stages of the Ulów micro-region settlement recorded in the archaeological sources. It also highlighted a whole range of the problems related to the interpretation of some cultural phenomena, especially with regard to the intensive settlement of the Corded Ware culture and the Wielbark culture, as well as the early phase of the Migration Period and initial phases of the early Middle Ages.

Multi-dyscyplinarne badania krajobrazowe dają niepowtarzalną okazję do śledzenia zmian środowiskowych oraz kulturowych i przybliżają nas do zrozumienia drogi jaką przebył człowiek na przestrzeni tysięcy lat swojego funkcjonowania na powierzchni Ziemi. W krajobrazie zawsze bowiem widoczna jest jego kulturowa „wielowarstwowość”, która czyni z niego rodzaj palimpsestu. Ponieważ analizy obejmujące w swej istocie szereg aspektów krajobrazu i perspektyw badawczych stają się coraz bardziej popularne, proponujemy zainicjowanie interdyscyplinarnego projektu skupiającego fachowców i wiedzę różnych dyscyplin naukowych, pozwalającego na zintegrowanie ich wysiłków i dzielenie się informacjami na temat roli krajobrazu w życiu człowieka oraz metod jego badań i ochrony.

Multidisciplinary landscape studies create a unique opportunity to trace cultural and environmental transformations and move us closer to understanding the distance that humanity have covered for the hundreds thousands years of its development. This is because the cultural “multi-layer structure” is an inherent feature of landscape, making it a kind of a palimpsest. During last years analysis dealing with many aspects of the landscape and its research perspectives are becoming more and more popular, we would like r to initiate an interdisciplinary project which will bring together efforts of experts and knowledge of various disciplines, and will allow us to integrate and share results of their analysis on the role of landscape in human life as well as will develop methods of its research and protection.

The recently developed concept of ecosystem services is not often used in tourism research. However, its interdisciplinarity, wide range of covered themes and (postulated) transparency for non specialist make the concept worth being popularized. The concept of ecosystem services could be implemented in economic valuation, tourism development and infrastructure planning as well as in education in the area of sustainable development. Identification and classification of ecosystem services for tourism is an important issue in promoting the discussed concept in tourism research. The article is an attempt to identify further research directions.
