An integrated model of corporate environment, including value chain, as a competitiveness tool for small and medium enterprises

This contribution presents a new approach to corporate environment which uses an integrated model as a tool to achieve competitiveness of enterprises with a focus on small and medium enterprises. According to our search in local and international literature, corporate environment defined in this manner, including an analysis of value chain, in order to formulate a business strategy, has not been yet investigated in any study. Our testing group consisted of 373 small and medium enterprises. Our solution utilized methods of dimensional reduction and gradual regression analysis. The objective of our research was to analyze significance of components of the corporate environment (micro environment, mezzo environment and macro environment) and of the value chain from the viewpoint of their effects on profitability of enterprises. We have demonstrated an irreplaceable role of internal sources depending on the mezzo environment.

W artykule przedstawiono nowe podejście do otoczenia korporacyjnego, które wykorzystuje model zintegrowany jako narzędzie do osiągania konkurencyjności przedsiębiorstw ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw. Z naszych poszukiwań w literaturze lokalnej i międzynarodowej wynika, że tak zdefiniowane otoczenie korporacyjne, w tym analiza łańcucha wartości w celu sformułowania strategii biznesowej, nie zostało dotychczas zbadane w żadnym opracowaniu. Nasza grupa testowa składała się z 373 małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw. W naszym rozwiązaniu wykorzystano metody redukcji wymiarów i stopniową analizę regresji. Celem naszych badań była analiza znaczenia komponentów otoczenia korporacyjnego (mikrośrodowiska, mezzotoczenia i makrootoczenia) oraz łańcucha wartości z punktu widzenia ich wpływu na rentowność przedsiębiorstw. Pokazaliśmy niezastąpioną rolę źródeł wewnętrznych w zależności od środowiska mezzo.

The need to undertake research work on the commercialization of results from scientific research and development projects emerged from the Author’s professional experience as well as the incomprehensive literature on the role of Polish research institutes in the process of technology transfer and commercialization of innovative solutions, in particular in the case of mining machinery and equipment. From the available literature, the commercialization of research results and technology transfer are analyzed from the perspectives of academia and entrepreneurs, but there is no analysis of this challenge from the perspective of the research institutes which create the majority of innovative solutions implemented in Poland. The research results presented in this article identify and highlight not only the main factors which facilitate knowledge transfer in the widest sense, but also the barriers which should be overcome. An integrated commercialization model of research results, developed by the Author, is described in the article. Some examples of other models, used to assess innovative technology transfer processes, i.e. Transfer model of the Cracow University of Technology, Jolly’s model, United model (science + market), Trzmielak’s linear – subsequent model, Network – interactive model and IpOp model, are also presented. Special attention is paid to the process of generating innovative ideas and to the area of efficient project management. Based on the integrated model, practical management recommendations for the successful commercialization of innovative solutions are given. It is highlighted that the integrated model can be treated as a diagnostic tool, enabling an efficient assessment of the transfer of research results and commercialization of innovative solutions.

Wstęp i cel: Bezpieczeństwo żywnościowe to sytuacja, w której wszyscy ludzie mają stały fizyczny, społeczny i ekonomiczny dostęp do wystarczającej ilości bezpiecznej i wartościowej żywności, zaspokajającej ich potrzeby i preferencje żywieniowe i w ten sposób umożliwiającej im prowadzenie aktywnego i zdrowego stylu życia. Celem pracy jest określenie koncepcji i ocena możliwości wdrożenia zintegrowanego systemu zarządzania jakością i bezpieczeństwem żywności w aspekcie determinantów jego skutecznej implementacji. Materiał i metody: Zastosowano metodę analizy i konstrukcji logicznej. Problem zintegrowanego systemu zarządzania jakością i bezpieczeństwem żywności i jego modelowania przeprowadzono w oparciu o krytyczną literaturę przedmiotu i własne doświadczenia autorów. Wyniki: Wynikiem opracowania jest proinnowacyjny model zarządzania jakością i bezpieczeństwem żywności uwzględniający kompleksowo spełnianie innych, określonych w międzynarodowych wzorcach, wymagań zapewniających produkcję i przetwarzanie żywności o gwarantowanej jakości i bezpiecznej zdrowotnie. Wniosek: Jako oryginalną wartość można uznać autorski model proinnowacyjnego systemu zarządzania jakością i bezpieczeństwem żywności, który zaimplementowany do przedsiębiorstw rolno-przetwórczych zapewni wysoka jakość i bezpieczną żywność dla konsumentów na europejskim i globalnym rynku.

Introduction and aim: Food security is a situation in which all people have constant physical, social and economic access to sufficient food that is safe and valuable, and which meets their needs and food preferences so that they can lead an active, healthy lifestyle. The purpose of discussion is to define the concept and assess the possibility of implementing an integrated system of quality management and food safety in terms of the determinants of its successful implementation. Material and methods: Used method of analysis and logical construction. The problem of an integrated system of quality management and food safety, and its modeling was based on the critical literature of the subject and the authors’ own experience. The results: The result of the study is to pro-innovative model of quality management and food safety into account comprehensively meet certain other international patterns, requirements to ensure the production and processing of food quality assured and safe to health. Conclusion: As the original value can be considered an original model of innovation-oriented quality management system and food safety, which is implemented in the agro-processing companies provide high quality and safety food for consumers on the European and global market.

The paper presents the general safety analytical model of a complex technical system under the influence of the operation process including its operating environment threats related to climate-weather change process, The system operation process including environment threats under influence of climate-weather variable conditions is defined. Moreover, the safety model of multistate systems at variable conditions related to operating environment threats and extreme weather hazards is proposed. The conditional safety functions at the operation process including operating environment threats and related to climate-weather change process particular states, the unconditional safety function and the risk function of the complex system at changing in time operation and climate-weather conditions and other, practically significant, critical infrastructure safety indices are defined. Furthermore, the same safety indicators are defined for exponential systems.

W oparciu o doświadczenia w zakresie monitoringu jakościowego i ilościowego ścieków oraz monitoringu opadów, a także analizy symulacyjne funkcjonowania łódzkiego systemu kanalizacyjnego omówiono korzyści i problemy wynikające z zastosowania tego typu podejścia przy podejmowaniu decyzji związanych z modernizacją sieci kanalizacyjnych. Wykorzystanie modeli symulacyjnych, skalibrowanych w oparciu o dane z monitoringu pozwala na wnikliwą analizę funkcjonowania systemu i jego wpływu na środowisko. Dane uzyskane ze skalibrowanych modeli pozwolą w przyszłości podejmować decyzje np. o wdrażaniu systemów RTC i tworzenia modeli zintegrowanych, narzędzi bardzo efektywnych w tworzeniu w pełni zrównoważonych systemów kanalizacyjnych.

Based on the experience in qualitative and quantitative monitoring of wastewater flow and rainfall, as well as simulation analysis of Lodz sewerage functioning, the benefits and problems resulting from the application of this approach related to the decisions of modernization of sewage systems were discussed. The use of simulation models calibrated based on monitoring dataset allows for thorough analysis of functioning of the system and its impact on the environment. Data obtained from calibrated models will allow in future for taking decisions, for example on the implementation of the RTC systems and the creation of integrated models, very effective tools in creating fully sustainable sewer systems.

Działalność przedsiębiorstwa budowlanego związana z wytwarzaniem wyrobu lub obiektu budowlanego oddziałuje na środowisko naturalne oraz bezpieczeństwo pracowników. Obecnie podstawowym, nowoczesnym narzędziem pozwalającym na zarządzanie działalnością przedsiębiorstwa budowlanego jest zintegrowany system zarządzania, realizowany w oparciu o normy: PN-EN ISO 9001:2009, PN-EN ISO 14001:2005 i PN-EN ISO 18001:2004. Przy tworzeniu zintegrowanego systemu zarządzania należy w pierwszej kolejności zidentyfikować wszelkie procesy i aspekty związane ze specyfiką działalności firmy realizującej prace budowlane. Model zintegrowanego systemu zarządzania w przedsiębiorstwie budowlanym, oprócz systemu zarządzania jakością, powinien również uwzględniać system zarządzania środowiskowego oraz system zarządzania bezpieczeństwem i higieną pracy. Cele dotyczące jakości, określone do realizacji przez organizację, powinny być uzupełnione o cele przedsiębiorstwa w zakresie rozwoju, finansowania, zyskowności, ochrony środowiska oraz bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy. Specyfika funkcjonowania przedsiębiorstwa budowlanego jest ściśle związana z oddziaływaniem na środowisko. Prowadzone prace budowlane wymagają także zwrócenia szczególnej uwagi na bezpieczeństwo i higienę pracy, w celu zmniejszenia liczby wypadków przy pracy, które w dużej mierze dotyczą właśnie przedsiębiorstw budowlanych. Wdrożenie zintegrowanego systemu zarządzania pozwala na optymalizację kosztów, podniesienie efektywności i konkurencyjności firmy, a także podniesienie poziomu bezpieczeństwa pracowników. Realizacja zintegrowanego systemu, zgodnie z normalizacją międzynarodową, wpływa pozytywnie na podniesienie jakości i wiarygodności przedsiębiorstwa budowlanego.

A construction company activities connected with the materials production or building construction influenced on the environment and safety of workers. Currently, the basic, modern tool to manage the business of building an integrated management system, implemented based on the following standards: PN-EN ISO 9001:2009, PN-EN ISO 14001:2005, PN-EN ISO 18001:2004 (OHAS 18001). During creating of the integrated management system, all processes and aspects related to the specifics of business related to the execution of construction works should be identified at first. Model of an integrated management system the construction company, in addition to the quality management system should also take into account, the environmental management system as well as safety management system and occupational health. Quality objectives specified for implementation by the organization, should be supplemented by the companies objectives in the range of development, financing, profitability, environmental protection, occupational health and safety. The specificity of the construction company functioning is closely related to the impact on the environment. Carried out construction work also require the special attention to health and safety in order to reduce the number of accidents in work that largely relate to what the construction companies. Implementation of the integrated management system allows to optimize costs, increase of the efficiency and competitiveness of the company, as well as the safety of workers. The implementation of the integrated system in accordance with the international standardization, has the positive effect on improving the quality and reliability of the construction company.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develop a mixed integer formulation that extends the previous production-distribution models by the integration of Aggregate Production Plan and Distribution Plan. Design/methodology/approach: This paper, firstly, presents a comprehensive review and analysis on the proposed production-distribution models and would develop a summary table to describe the main characteristics of the selected models outlining the level of complexity considered at each study. Based on the integration of Aggregate Production Plan and Transportation/Distribution Plan, over the second stage, the paper will develop a mixed integer formulation for a two-echelon supply network. The model incorporates multi-time periods, multi-products, multi-plants, multi-warehouses as well as multi-end users, and considers the real-world variables and constraints. Finally, the developed model will be analyzed in case of a realistic scenario-based production-distribution problem. Findings: This paper developed a mixed integer formulation for the optimization of a two-echelon SN. Considering detailed production cost elements and a realistic range of variables and constraints in the proposed case study indicate the effectiveness of the developed model in the real-world applications. Practical implications: The increasing interest in evaluating the performance of SNs over the last years indicates the need for the development of complex optimization models able to answer unsolved questions in the production-distribution network. Originality/value: Implementation of a supply-chain (SC) system has crucial impacts on a company's financial performance. Overall performance of a Supply Network (SN) is influenced significantly by the decisions taken in its production-distribution plan integrating the decisions in production, transport and warehousing as well as inventory management. Thus, one key issue in the performance evaluation of SNs is the modeling and optimization of production-distribution plan considering its actual complexity.

The water supply and sewage segment is element of municipal infrastructure, in particular technical infrastructure, and water supply systems, are components of critical infrastructure. We can say therefore that water supply and sewage segment task is to provide public services with municipal nature (water supply and removal of sewage belonging to water supply and sewage services), strategic importance (mainly water supply in crisis situations), and social nature (water supply for fire fighting or people and assets safety).

W artykule przedstawiono współczesne modele transformacji wiedzy i przeprowadzono dyskusję możliwości ich dostosowania do polskich warunków gospodarczych. Przeanalizowano strategiczne i operacyjne uwarunkowania skuteczności procedur transformacji w obszarze budowy i eksploatacji maszyn. Zaprezentowano przykłady procesów wdrożeniowych zrealizowanych w różnych wariantach sieci powiązań jednostek sfery nauki i gospodarki. Zaproponowano sposoby eliminacji barier transformacji wiedzy szczególnie w odniesieniu do problematyki eksploatacji maszyn i urządzeń technicznych.

The paper presents the recent models of knowledge transformation and the discussion of possibilities of their adjustment to Polish economy conditions. Strategic and operational conditions of transformation procedures efficiency in the field of machine construction and maintenance are analysed. Examples of implentation processes realised in different networks of links of R&D areas and economy are presented. The ways of knowledge transformation barriers elimination particularly in the area of machine construction and maintenance are proposed.
