This study shows the results of long-term inland water monitoring using Sentinel-2 data for Głuszyńskie Lake in the years 2015–2022. Four water quality parameters: biological oxygen demand (BOD), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), chlorophyll concentration (CHL) and electrical conductivity (EC) were calculated according to formulas found in the literature. The results were validated based on measurements conducted in 2021 and 2022, where for BOD, DOC and CHL high determination coefficients (0.77 and 0.79) were observed, and the EC determination coefficient was equal to 0.45. The results show that empirical formulas can be used for qualitative analyses of inland water quality, while for quantitative analyses more extensive field work needs to be performed.

Despite the convenient system of waterways, the advantages of this branch of transport are scarcely used in Poland. As the share of goods transported in containers rose in the world, inland waterways in Western Europe were adapted to those new circumstances by changing the technology of transport so that it would allow shipping to participate in servicing new freight and new transport destinations. The development and implementation of intermodal concepts of transport opens for inland navigation the possibility to increase their share in transport. ODW [Oder Waterway], which runs through economic regions of great transport needs, is especially predestined to adapt to inland navigation by the development of combined transport of goods in containers.

The article presents the qualitative assessment of the Oder Waterway (Odrzańska Droga Wodna; ODW) based on the Polish classification of inland waterways. Taking into account basic parameters of ships and convoys capable of navigating on the Oder, the river is classified in most sections as a waterway of regional importance (Class II and III). Considering the existing differences of development and operating parameters of the Oder Waterway, its navigational sections have been distinguished and presented in detail in respect of their adaptation for the purposes of inland water transport. The section of the free flowing Oder from the lock in Brzeg Dolny (281.6 km) to the estuary of the Lusatian Neisse (542.4 km) has the lowest transit depths, and the most difficult section to navigate is the section directly below the barrage in Brzeg Dolny, where – due to the progressive erosion of the river bed – the depths are lower than 1.0 m for the majority of the navigation season. The dilapidation of structures built on the Oder causes the operating parameters to lower and consequently the level or the transport use of the Oder. Should one want to take advantage of certain features of inland navigation, such as safety, low energy consumption and high dead-weight tonnage of vessels to create multimodal transport chains, including intermodal and combined chains along the Oder Transport Corridor, until the operating parameters of the waterway are improved, one has to use the means of road and rail transport which would take cargo from vessels on those sections where free inland were not possible.

The objective of the study was to assess the trophic state of water in the hydrographic system of the Sola cascade, situated in the Carpathian region in southern Poland. Analyses included inflowing and retained water in dam reservoirs: Tresna, Porabka and Czaniec. The level of eutrophication of water was estimated basing on its physicochemical parameters. Out of all methods used in determining the trophic state, the selected methods included the norms determined in the Polish regulations, the Neverova-Dziopak index (ITS – Index of Trophical State) and the Carlson index (TSI – Trophic State Index). Analyses of data from years 2007–2009 showed that water quality reflected characteristic parameters for mesotrophy and eutrophy. Unfavorable trophic state concerned almost all waters that were studied, including waters of the lowest reservoir of the cascade – Czaniec reservoir, which is part of the municipal water supply system. That emphasizes the need for protection of the catchment of the cascade with regards to reduction of contamination load discharged to surface waters.

Spośród stosowanych metod ustalania stanu trofii wybrano normy określone w polskich przepisach prawnych, wskaźnik Neverovej-Dziopak (ITS - Index of Trophical State) oraz wskaźnik Carlsona (TSI - Trophic State Index).

Inland water transport has played a significant role in the development of port cities and seaports all over the world for ages. As a dominant mode of inland transport until the rail and road have begun to prevail in the European transport systems, it has at first created and then shaped seaport hinterland in the majority of the European ports. However, its impact on these organisms, i.e. seaports and port cities has changed in many European countries in recent decades, due to the fact that it was getting weaker (logistics time constraints) and less competitive on the transport market. Consequently, in many European countries it has lost its impact on seaports hinterland and has been replaced by other less environmentally friendly modes of transport. This tendency is, however, not observed in the North Sea mega-ports as well as in many world biggest ports in Asia and North America, where inland shipping still maintains significant share in the port total turnover modal split. The reasons for such situation are analyzed in this article.

The variety of satellite data accessible at present gives the wide possibilities for the surface waters quality monitoring in case of size of monitored area (the size of satellite scene), possibility of obtaining the different water quality parameters (different spectral bands) and the precision of spatial distribution those parameters (pixel size). The chlorophyll-a, basic hydrobiological parameter, is the main index of the phytoplankton content in water. Remote sensing monitoring of chlorophyll-a concentration in case of sea and oceanic waters has been made for many years. Many computational formulae in reference to inland waters was elaborated for individual lakes or the types of lakes, but there is no universal formula independent from kind of water basin. The article presents the part of results of study made from 2003 for two tested areas, the Mazurian lakes and the Vistula Lagoon. The elaboration of the processing methodology of the superspectral CHRIS satellite data for the inland waters quality assessment was the main aim of this study. at present gives the wide possibilities for the surface waters quality monitoring in case of size of monitored area (the size of satellite scene), possibility of obtaining the different water quality parameters (different spectral bands) and the precision of spatial distribution those parameters (pixel size). Non-fishery or external values are usually understood as all uncontuable values and benefits of the inland fisheries, which are not in form of direct economic effects of the fisheries, although they depend on this activity. The problem of non-fishery values and of the resulting benefits is noticeable in both: lake fisheries and especially pond fish culture. Studies comprise 43 non-fishery values (in 6 groups) of small ponds and lakes in Olsztyn region as estimated by 347 small users of those waters.
