The article presents the results of the DEMATEL method (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) method. The method had been used to identify and analyze cause and effect relationships between factors that influence the use of inland waterway transport. The author took into account interactions between seven factors. The factors were: (1) accessibility and condition of ports, transshipment infrastructure, shipyards, and service areas, (2) operating parameters of the linear infrastructure (waterways and locks), (3) technical condition of the fleet, (4) human errors committed by crew, infrastructure operators, and/or decision makers, (5) climate and weather conditions (floods, droughts, wind, ice, groundwater level), (6) financing the water transport system - repairs, ongoing maintenance of infrastructure; subsidies and discounts for shipowners, (7) availability of information (e.g. navigation messages), method of data collection and distribution, communication and promotion of inland navigation. The analysis based on the DEMATEL method used the survey conducted among Polish experts in the field of inland waterway transport. The results of the analysis show that the most influencing factor is financing, and the most important cause influencing inland waterway transport is climate.

Location study for the investment project entitled Multimodal Platform considering the area of the city of Bydgoszcz and commune of Solec Kujawski last year was published. The examples of existent multimodal ports in Europe show a growing demand for goods transport by the inland waterways. On the basis of the Multimodal Port, it is planned to export cargo from the ports in Gdansk and Gdynia. So, on the Vistula's waterway between Gdansk and Bydgoszcz is the basic rule for navigators is to keep safety distance to the river bottom and on the other hand, to bridge structures. The paper presents limitation for inland ships in the area of planned multimodal port near Bydgoszcz. The analysis of navigation conditions was carried out using probabilistic model of underkeel clearance to verify typical inland vessel traffic on planned port approach. Results of this analysis can be used for further research connected with minimal safety depth determination and risk analysis in study area.

This analysis is aimed at presentation of a design concept of ship’s main propulsion system and determination of its total efficiency. To realize the task it is necessary to have a look at description of energy losses and efficiency of hydrostatic transmission gear, with taking into account its possible simplification. Image of mutual interaction of losses generated in all elements of hydraulic system appears very complex. In this paper energy balance of main propulsion system with hydrostatic transmission gear intended for a segment ship for inland waterways and coastal service, was analyzed under assumption of necessary simplifications.

Uzasadnione techniczno-ekonomicznie rozwiązania mogą stanowić alternatywę dla rozwoju środków transportu i intensyfikacji usług śródlądowego transportu wodnego, szczególnie w odniesieniu do ładunków drobnicowych.

The paper contains propositions of design and decisive criteria to be applied for selection of the fast cargo inland ships, i.e. operating at supercritical speed on determined transition depth of water way. Well-founded solutions (technical-economical) may become an alternative for transportation means development and intensification of inland waterway transportation service, particularly related to general cargoes.
