This article presents an analysis of strategic sites in the example of Jelenia Góra and Trzebnica and description of the criteria taken into consideration in the formulation and characterization of strategic sites, with reference to the example (Bielsko-Biała) considered as a model for described places.

Internet portals and geoportals are indispensable elements of information systems created to satisfy public information needs. Local governments face particular challenge in this context. City of Częstochowa has a great tourist potential. The city council took initiative to create Municipal Tourist Information System (MSIT). Its geoportal is available in Internet and in 50 info kiosks. The system includes an information database for tourists and pilgrims. The city council cooperates with local businesses providing services to the tourists (e.g. restaurants, hotels) to keep the database up-todate. This paper presents the technical architecture of the solution as well as the process of system implementation, including formal, legal and financial aspects. Usefulness of geoportal and its relation to INSPIRE is discussed.

Rozwój ruchu turystycznego jest uwarunkowany występowaniem odpowiednich atrakcji turystycznych, które przyciągają turystów (walory przyrodnicze, kulturowe, historyczne i inne). Nie mniej ważnym elementem jest odpowiednia infrastruktura turystyczna, umożliwiająca wykorzystanie tych walorów. Jednak rzeczywiste możliwości wykorzystania atrakcji turystycznych są determinowane przez obszerność i jakość danych zgromadzonych i udostępnianych w bazach danych. W referacie przedstawiono zagadnienia dotyczące roli i funkcji informacji w turystyce. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na problematykę gromadzenia danych, a przede wszystkim na czynniki ograniczające efektywne korzystanie z baz danych.

Development of tourism is depends on occurrence of right sights. The most popular for tourists are nature virtues, cultural and historical attraction. The second feature very important for tourist areas is infrastructure to make possible to arrive there. Although, if we want to take advantage of our attraction, the first thing that we should to do is collect information about them as much as possibly can and put it into database. The grow importance of tourist information and issues of data gathering was presented in the paper. Especially remark on technique of data gathering, extensive database and operating costs.

Postęp w zakresie technologii informacyjnych sprawia, że unowocześniamy istniejące metody i tworzymy nowe narzędzia i środki do zarządzania informacją. Przykładem takich rozwiązań jest komputerowy system informacji turystycznej, który, pomimo krótkiego okresu funkcjonowania, jest już znanym i wykorzystywanym źródłem informacji. Funkcjonalność i nowoczesność zastosowanych rozwiązań spowodowała, że rozpoczęto prace nad rozszerzeniem zasięgu działania tego systemu na obszar całego województwa. W referacie przedstawiono sposób zarządzania informacją turystyczną w województwie podlaskim na tle ogólnych problemów w zakresie wykorzystywania systemów informacji w gospodarce turystycznej.

Progress in modern information technologies in the range of information management brings about modernizing already existing and creating new methods, tools and measures in the information management scope. The computer tourism information system can be given as an example of that as a well known and useful source of knowledge, although it has been employing for a short time. Functionality and modernity of the new applied methods were the reasons why further efforts aiming at expanding that system onto the whole area of the Podlaskie province have been taken.
