The article is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Department of Textile Technology of Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania). The history, past and present achievements as well as problems of the Department and textile industry of Lithuania are briefly presented. International academic collaboration as well as the situation and peculiarities of textile studies are also presented. The increases in scientific activity, the number of doctoral and master students, the decreases in the number of bachelor students and the reasons for these phenomena are analyzed. The situation in the Lithuanian textile industry as well as perspectives on the development of scientific investigations of the Department are also presented and analyzed.

Artykuł, poświęcony 70–leciu Katedry Technologii Włókienniczych Litewskiej Politechniki w Kownie, opisuje historię, minione jak i obecne osiągnięcia, a także problemy Katedry oraz przemysłu włókienniczego na Litwie. Zaprezentowane są również specyficzność studiów realizowanych w Katedrze oraz międzynarodowa współpraca między uczelniami. Ponadto, analizowane są wzrost aktywności naukowej, wzrost liczby studentów studiów magisterskich i doktoranckich, równoczesny spadek liczby studentów studiów licencjackich oraz przyczyny tego zjawiska. Artykuł przedstawia również obecną sytuację przemysłu włókienniczego na Litwie oraz perspektywy rozwoju badań naukowych prowadzonych przez Katedrę.
