Reviewing the current state of knowledge on sustainable production, this paper opens the Special Section entitled “Sustainability in production in the context of Industry 4.0”. The fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0), which embodies a vision for the future system of manufacturing (production), focuses on how to use contemporary methods (i.e. computerization, robotization, automation, new business models, etc.) to integrate all manufacturing industry systems to achieve sustainability. The idea was introduced in 2011 by the German government to promote automation in manufacturing. This paper shows the state of the art in the application of modern methods in sustainable manufacturing in the context of Industry 4.0. The authors review the past and current state of knowledge in this regard and describe the known limitations, directions for further research, and industrial applications of the most promising ideas and technologies.

The current stage of socio-economic development is focused on ensuring prosperity by meeting the goals and intensifying the practices of the 4th generation smart industry. The ways and methods of advancement are being scientifically researched and specified, while at the same time revealing errors and weaknesses in the development so far, which are the potential for continuous increase of prosperity and sustainable production and consumption. From this point of view, the paper analyses and more accurately formulates the effects of smart industry 4.0 on the economy and society in a global sense. In the context of the new industry 5.0 development concept identifies significant progress in automation, robotization and digitization of imaginary processes supporting economic growth with obvious reserves and risks in the social field, as well as in relation to sustainable development and climate strategies, especially in the environmental field. In the article, the authors present the concept of models for intensification and transition from the developed implementation model for Industry 4.0 to the environment and concepts of Industry 5.0. Priorities for the development and innovation of the fourth generation smart industry within the fifth generation concept and possible synergy effects from human-robot-machine-environment cooperation, especially in the social field and in ensuring the well-being of workers in industry, are formulated in more detail. The article examines the existing methods of assessing the innovation and investment image of the region and proposes an author's methodology that considers the development of the region's production and infrastructure to form a strategic policy to create and apply innovation and economic potential of the region. The research hypothesis is based on the use of the method of distance from the standard, allowing to obtain relatively objective and fair assessments of the innovation and investment image of the region, considering the leading indicators of enterprises, ensuring their differentiation by industry. Enterprises, industries, and regions in the top rankings are considered more attractive to investors in terms of innovation, economic and social development. To confirm the hypothesis, the method of assessing the innovation and investment image of the regions was considered, which begins with an empirical, theoretical study and ends with the practicality of use. A method for determining the rating of business activity of innovation-active and investment-attractive enterprises considering their territorial and sectoral affiliation has been developed. The study has a significant economic and regional impact: using this method of assessing the innovation and investment image of the regions allows investors to evaluate and select the region in which the investment proposal will consider the features and priorities of economic development of the region and industry trends.

The main direction of the industrial development of Ukraine is the solving of the environmental pollution problems under the conditions of preservation of natural resources through complex use of raw materials with involvement of industrial wastes. The developed technology is intended for galvanic, accumulator, machine-building, mine and other enterprises, the wastewater from which contains ions of heavy metals. Heavy metal ions are extremely dangerous toxic substances because of a cumulative effect on aquatic organisms. In order to remove copper ions from aqueous solutions, the chemical precipitation with lime is used. The choice of reagent is associated with its cheapness. The most effective reagent precipitation of copper ions in the form of hydroxide occurs when the pH is raised to 10. In this work, the influence of sludge, which is formed as a result of water purification from copper ions, on the properties of cement was investigated. The effect was evaluated on the following properties: normal density of cement, hardening time, compressive strength at the age of 2 and 28 days and water separation coefficient. This allowed us to develop effective ways to their disposal. The developed method provides: a high degree of metal removal (up to 98-99%); simplicity of technological process; small capital and operating costs; complex technology of wastewater treatment process. Thus, the results of the study will contribute to the creation of low-waste and non-waste technologies for waste processing and disposal.

Purpose: The article aims at evaluating the automation and robotization development status in Poland, recognizing the key factors influencing the technology development in Polish enterprises and identifying the existing support in the given scope. Design/methodology/approach: Data from secondary sources were used for the analysis in this article. The secondary data came from internal sources, such statistical offices, government administration authorities, studies and publications. Data were collected and analyzed using Excel. Findings: The data analysis performed for the automation and robotization status in Poland shows that the available statistics are highly limited. Only one institution is currently performing large-scale research on the global robotization, while automation in Polish enterprises was researched by Statistics Poland up to 2015. If there are reports containing data on the automation status, they are very limited and recognized differently. Owing to the above, data comparison from various periods of time and various industries is challenging. Originality/value (mandatory) The paper presents the detailed automation and robotization development status analysis in Poland.

The paper analyses the ecological properties of taiga topsoil during its commercial development and assesses the consequences of impact which will be made by the future facilities on the environment (taking into account the types of impact, their characteristics, the tendencies of transformation in the nature systems growing with the increase of service life, which were detected at the producing fields), sanitary and socioeconomic aspects of the facilities operation under the conditions of specific geographical complexes. The object of study included waspodzolic and swamp-podzolic soils located in the Uvat district in Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Region of Tyumen region, in the area of potential impact of industrial facilities. The method of study implied the selection of soil specimens and their examination according to the standard practices. Ten specimens were taken from each of three areas of sampling. The specimens were subjected to office study in order to determine eleven parameters. The sources of impact made by the oil and gas facility on the environment were the material objects (buildings, constructions etc.), elements and assemblies of basic and auxiliary technologies which result in pollutants emission. The major impact on topsoil at the stage of preparatory works and construction of facilities was the mechanical damage to the natural state of soils. It is primarily connected with sites stripping from forestry and ground leveling. The paper reviews the issues of ecological condition of topsoil and forecast of possible changes while commercial development of the studied area. A negative load on soil may be decreased through planning and implementation of organizational measures on assessment of current state of the topsoil within the field and environmental threat from basic and auxiliary industrial facilities.
