Experimental investigation of dynamic behaviour of thermoplastic fibre reinforced laminates

The influence of impact damage on the dynamic behaviour of dry and wet thermoplastic fibre reinforced samples has been investigated. The change of the structural state could be detected in the changes of the modal parameters. In the first part of the investigations, appropriate modes were selected for a reliable structural state detection of the samples. The accuracy of determining these parameters could be identified for the chosen measurement method. Within the second part of the work, the changes in the modal parameters caused by moisture, impact damage and the combination of both have been investigated. This research serves as a foundation for modal analysis based a structural health monitoring (SHM) system for composite structures that include the effects of moisture.

Przeprowadzono badania udarności na zachowanie dynamiczne suchych i wilgotnych próbek kompozytowych o osnowie termoplastycznej, wzmocnionych włóknami węglowymi. W uszkodzonych próbkach wykryto zmiany parametrów modalnych. W pierwszej części badań wybrano odpowiednie mody umożliwiające niezawodne wykrywanie zmian dynamiki próbek oraz określono dokładność parametrów modalnych dla wybranej metody pomiaru. W drugiej części pracy określono zmiany parametrów modalnych we wcześniej wybranych modach spowodowanych wilgocią, przebiciem udarowym oraz ich kombinacją. Badania te mogą służyć jako podstawa dla systemu przeznaczonego do monitorowania stanu konstrukcji (ang. Structural Health Monitoring - SHM) kompozytowych, opartego o analizę modalną i uwzględniającego wpływ wilgoci.

Most of the craters on the Earth, produced by an impact of meteorite or other space object, have been masked by exogenous processes. The refore, indirect indicators of the impact such as shocked quartz have been recognized. The impact metamorphism is visibly recorded within quartz by distinctive microstructures. However, only the planar deformation features (PDF) are unquestionable evidences of impact. They should be investigated with particular accuracy because of similarity to endogenic planar microdeformations such as: growth features or metamorphic deformation lamellae. The K/Pg boundary interval from the Polish Outer Carpathians (Skole Unit, Husów. Thrust Sheet, Bąkowiec section) have been studied. This note presents difficulties in identifying shock features in quartz grains collected from turbiditic material.

Artykuł skupia się na problemie jednego z największych kryzysów świata organicznego w dziejach Ziemi, mającego miejsce na granicy kredy i paleogenu, w wyniku którego wyginęło wiele grup zwierząt, m.in. znane wszystkim dinozaury. W artykule ukazano poglądy różnych badaczy, wyjaśniające późnokredowe wymieranie, skupiając się w znacznej mierze na dominującej obecnie teorii impaktowej, sprecyzowanej przez Waltera i Luisa Alvarezów. Artykuł ten jest pewnego rodzaju śledztwem, w którym podjęto próbę rekonstrukcji wydarzeń z końca kredy oraz wskazano ofiary, które nie przetrwały zmian środowiska, zachodzących pod koniec mezozoiku. Ponadto ukazano dowody geologiczne i paleontologiczne, potwierdzające teorię Alvarezów, nie omijając danych, które przemawiają za pozostałymi hipotezami.

The article discusses one of the direst crises in the history of the organic life on Earth. The event that took place at the Cretaceous/Paleogene transition (65 MY ago) was the cause of mass extinction of many animal species including well known dinosaurs. The article reviews hypotheses of various scientists explaining late Cretaceous demise focusing on the prevailing impact theory by Luis and Walter Alvarez. This essay is sort of investigation where the author attempts to reconstruct the events of the Upper Cretaceous Period. It also presents the victims that were unable to adapt to environmental changes of the late Mesozoic Era. Moreover, the article presents geological and paleontological arguments for Alvarez' theory without omitting the evidence that supports alternative theories.
