Hydrothermal transformations of phlogopite: a case study from the Apuseni Mountains (Romania)

Aggregates of greenish, white-greenish, green-brownish, or white-nacreous, welldeveloped lamellar crystals of phlogopite occur in the pyroxene skarns developed within the Anisian dolostones at the contact with the Laramian intrusive granodioritic bodies of Budureasa and Pietroasa (Apuseni Mountains, Romania). The phlogopite is a result of diopside transformation during late stages of the hydro-metasomatosis that affected the Mgskarns. The high Fe content and the normative composition show meroxene to be the initial form of the phlogopite. Later, the maroxene was hydrothermally transformed into phlogopite, trioctahedral illite and finally into chlorite and serpentine minerals. These processes reveal the fact that several pulses of hydrothermal fluids of gradually decreasing temperatures affected the meroxene-phlogopite.

Agregaty dobrze wykształconych blaszkowych kryształów flogopitu, barwy zielonawej, zielonobrunatnej i perłowobiałej, występują w skarnach piroksenowych rozwiniętych w dolomitach anizyku na kontakcie z laramijskimi intruzjami granodiorytowymi koło Budureasa i Petroasa (góry Apuseni). Flogopit jest tu produktem transformacji diopsydu w późnych stadiach metasomatozy hydrotermalnej jakiej uległy skarny magnezowe. Początkowym produktem metasomatozy był bogaty w Fe meroksen, który z kolei uległ przeobrażeniu we flogopit, trioktaedryczny illit i w końcu chloryt i minerały grupy serpentynu. Omawiane transformacje były zapewne wynikiem kilku etapów dopływu roztworów hydrotermalnych, o coraz niższej temperaturze.
