For the enlargement of the nautical dimensions of Santos Port Outer Access Channel (Brazil), training walls crossing the Offshore Bar are needed. The training walls choice to reduce dredging rates also induces to consider a coupling planning between nautical purposes and shore protection measures, as Santos Municipality have serious erosion problems nowadays due to the urban growth in the backshore and sea level rise. For decision support, the Hydraulic Laboratory of Engineering School of University of Sao Paulo was commissioned to study in a composite mathematical and scale model. Results include changes in wave height and direction and current speed analysis to conditions with training walls and segmented breakwaters. The water renewal was also analyzed to the condition with segmented breakwater and compared to current situation, based on hydrodynamics results and considering that this structure can reduce water quality in this area.

Results of an extensive experimental study conducted in eighties at the former Leningrad Polytechnic Institute are revised and analysed in context of some further research. The optimum length of straight outlet tubes with diffuser of circular cross-section and the outlet/inlet crosssectional area ratio are established. The optimum geometrical features of cranked type outlet tubes and the outlet tubes with diffuser cross-section transition from circular to square and rectangular ones are determined. Finally, the influence of the outlet conjunction channel slope on the pumping station efficiency is studied in detail.

W artykule przedstawiono symulator liniowego napędu hydrostatycznego, będącego na wyposażeniu Laboratorium Napędów i Sterowań Hydraulicznych Instytutu Konstrukcji i Eksploatacji Maszyn Politechniki Wrocławskiej. Zwrócono uwagę na niektóre jego możliwości aplikacyjne oraz dokonano jego identyfikacji jako źródła hałasu. Jako przykład aplikacji wskazano generator drgań mechanicznych oraz układ regulacji położenia stołu symulatora.

In the paper the simulator of linear hydrostatic drive was presented. Considered simulator is a part of Laboratory of Hydraulic Drive and Control of Institute of Machines Design and Operation Wroclaw University of Technology. Special attention was focused on some its application possibilities; moreover the simulator was identified as a source of noise. As an example of application the generator of mechanical vibrations and position regulation system were presented.
