Introduction/background; Aim of the paper: Management of employee health is extremely important in the context of anthropogenic climate change. We examined the costs and benefits of implementing employee health management programs in the case of the vector-borne disease Lyme disease and its comorbidities (encephalitis, myelitis, and encephalomyelitis), taking sensitivity analysis into account. We have also examined the economic burden of these diseases and their comorbidities. Materials and methods: In order to estimate the costs and benefits of implementing employee health management programs in the case of vector-borne diseases as well as the economic burden of these diseases, the following data were used: data from the National Health Fund (NFZ) with related etiological fraction calculus and sensitivity analysis; and datasets from the Social Insurance Institution and the Central Statistical Office, using the human capital method (which includes, among others, the number of sick days). Results and conclusions: The total cost of Lyme disease and its complications, taking into account sensitivity analysis, amounts to EUR 16.2-16.3 million. The implementation of employee health management solutions would reduce the costs of Lyme disease’s complications by at least EUR 2.5 million and decrease employer losses. The results of this study show that treatment costs for patients with complications are higher than those for patients with well-controlled diseases (without complications). Moreover, the conducted analysis indicates that the implementation of employee health management solutions similar to solutions implemented by the Polish National Forest Holding is associated with a reduction in the incidence and costs of serious complications.

Introduction/background: Single-use plastic (SUP) products, being considered harmful to the environment and public health, are to be banned in the EU by 2021. These bans are required to be put in place by all member states. For other SUP items, member states will have to limit their use through a national reduction in consumption, either ensuring they cannot be provided free of charge, or by making alternative products available. Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to present a grass-root action QUIT PLASTIC (http://quitplastic.eu/) initiated by a group of Polish scientists, as an immediate reaction to SUP elimination. Materials and methods: In April-October 2019, a carefully designed platform on SUP usage as offered as an anonymous survey to be filled in by canteen/take-away style restaurant visitors, the focus being on university students in the city of Kraków (N = 80). In all, a full range of SUP was offered, with the highest representation of take-away-containers, bottles and cutlery (consecutively in 89,23%, 87,50% 60% of the locals). Representation of various SUP items was significantly dependent on the size of university. Results and conclusions: In results of the research the authors discovered that none of the surveyed canteens/gastronomes displayed information about SUP environmental and health risk, some offered waste selection containers (16/80). This was more often (9/16) evident in smaller universities. A full picture of how to improve implementing and fostering the sharing of responsibility for the environment by means of humanistic approach are discussed in the paper. There are also suggested some recommendations.

How do socio-economic change and technological revolution change the way we manage people. How does the development of AI (Artificial Intelligence) affect the process of talent acquisition? The author will present the concepts of technological unemployment, creative class, millennials (generation Y), humanistic management, sustainable development, CSR and new managerial models in light of current social changes. Humanistic management as a broader concept, and humanistic talent attraction as its direct implication, will be presented as an answer to the current technological development. The author presents a narrower topic of human resources management but sees potential in the topic to develop a discussion on future of work in a broader sense.

Humanistic management may be among the latest buzzwords, but the older generation maintains that it knew all about it all along. Some of them had practised it at the workplace. It is all about workplace dignity. By giving it a fancy name, Generation Z is only reinventing the wheel. Upon interaction with the respondents selected for the study, the researcher concludes that humanistic management can help reduce attrition and raise employee productivity. As a result, the employer can become more price-competitive and quality-competitive at the workplace. Thus, the outcome is a virtuous cycle of enhanced productivity, enhanced competitiveness and reduced training costs. But what piqued the curiosity of the researcher was why, to this day, humanistic management remains an exception and not the rule, across the employer community. This is because employers placed more faith in authoritative managers than in individual workers and group dynamics. They ignored interpersonal relationships. They failed to acknowledge the value of dignity in the economics and management space! This amounts to being wise to the penny and foolish to the pound. At best, it may lead the employee to churn out products at the same dreary pace for the rest of his/her work life. For all one knows, the employee concerned may be capable of delivering more but no thanks to absence of humanistic management, the employee concerned is seldom motivated to excel himself/herself at the workplace. Humanistic management dispels the notion that productivity level is the same across employees.
