The purpose of this article is to describe selected issues of the wind energy. This paper has been focused on the characteristic basic quantity of the wind turbines and possibility of categories: horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWT) and vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT). Horizontal axis turbines are the most common turbine configuration used today. The special constructional solution of HAWT is DAWT (Diffuser Augmented Wind Turbine). Vertical axis turbines fall into two major categories: Savonius and Darrieus. The variety of Darrieus turbine is H -rotor called "giromill" with mechanically orient a blade pitch change mechanism. The paper suggested that Poland have favorable conditions to produced wind energy
