The main aim o f the article is to show the changing in time and space phenomenon of shaping hegemony and order in the past and in modern times. This process has been a permanent feature of international political relations since the Ancient Times up till now. The article is based on the analysis o f historical examples that create an empirical foundation for the classification and systemisation of the processes under consideration. In the context o f hegemony in international relations, there are given examples of Assyria, the Roman Empire and the French and Spanish rivalry in the 16th century. Then the genesis and results of the multisided United States' over-hegemony for the international relations in the 21st century is described. The typology of international order is carried out in the following chapters, focusing on presenting possible scenarios for the 21st century. The conelusion contains a hypothesis that contemporary international relations will be characteristic o f the dominant position of the United States, the European Union, Russia, China and India. It is underlined that in order to shape a more pluralistic global system, the cooperation with such partners as Japan, Germany, Brazil, Mexico and the Arab world should be intensified. Thus the USA supremacy will be limited and the newly shaped order will cause fewer conflicts.
