In this study, an attempt was made to assess changes in the microstructure of centrifugally cast tubes from GX40CrNiSiNb24-24 steel after a long-term operation under the conditions of a catalytic conversion of methane with steam. Changes in phase morphology occurring as a result of high temperature were identified.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań procesu niszczenia (degradacji) łopatek turbiny silnika lotniczego, poddanych podczas eksploatacji silnym obciążeniom cieplnym. Łopatki były pokryte warstwami dyfuzyjnymi aluminidkowymi niskoaktywnymi (HTLA) oraz wysokoaktywnymi (LTHA), otrzymanymi metodą kontaktowo-gazową. Warstwa LTHA w stanie wyjściowym przed eksploatacją miała grubość 45 žm i zawierała fazę NiAl o zawartości poniżej 50%at.

The investigation results of the degradation process of aircraft engine turbine blades during operation which were subjected to strong cyclic thermal load have been presented in the paper. The blades were covered with chromoaluminised diffusion coatings (HTLA) and aluminium coatings (LTHA) using the gas-contact method. The coating in the initial state before operation had a thickness of 45 žm and contained the NiAl phase with a content below 50% at. Al. The aluminium coating above contained 50% at. Al. The coating was formed on the aircraft engine turbine blades made of the Ni base alloy and then after comprehensive laboratory tests they were sent for use. After operation tests the blades were dismounted and subjected to a test of the degradation mechanisms of the chromoaluminised (HTLA) and aluminium (LTHA) coatings. It was shown that the degradation process takes place as a result of corrosion on the grain boundaries of the NiAl phase until the transient zone is achieved and then there is delamination between the scale and transient zone. In the aluminium coatings the corrosion attack took place by precipitates which are rich in high-melting elements and by cracks formed as result of thermal fatigue. The structures of new types of coatings on casting alloys and on a CMSX-4 monocristalline alloy have been presented. Additionally, the structure of platinum modified aluminide coatings has been shown.
