Electrical capacitance tomography has been used to image a bubble column. Sets of linear back projection tomograms are then analysed to yield gas hold-up values and to determine flow regime in a traditional manner. Further analysis is performed producing a ststistic (heterogeneity index for tomograms) that is independent of the averge hold-up. This is used to provide an alternative and superior means to determine flow regime.
