The article presents some aspects of functioning of the SAR system in the land area of the Republic of Poland. It describes those who are responsible for conducting the operation depending on the location and type of event. The characteristic of the SAR system includes legal and structural aspects, procedures and technical equipment which are essential components of the whole body. The final section contains some conclusions of the SAR system functionality as well as forecasts of its reorganization in the context of changes in the aviation law and legal documents.

Transport jest jedną z podstawowych gałęzi logistyki. Jedną z najbardziej specyficznych odmian transportu jest natomiast transport sanitarny przy użyciu statków powietrznych, z reguły śmigłowców. W Polsce tego rodzaju działalność prowadzi się od lat 30., a obecnie rolę tą pełni Lotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe oferujące służbę HEMS składającą się z sieci baz lotniczych obejmujących zasięgiem 90% terytorium naszego kraju.

Transport is one of the main branches of logistics. One of the most distinctive varieties of transport is, however, medical transport using aircraft, usually helicopters. In Poland, this kind of activity is carried out from the 30s, and now this role is assured by HEMS service offering a network of air bases covering 90% of the Poland’s territory.
