Authors analyze the resistance of shear and compression of the Polish Baltic soils on the depth of 10 and 20 m below the sea bottom. On the basis of selected mechanical properties of the Polish Baltic soils have been characterized the devided geological-engineering units on the depth of 10 and 20 m below the sea bottom. These characteristics concern the engineering- geological division of the sea bottom are founded on the detailed analyses of the geological maps of the Baltic Sea bottom in scale of 1: 200 000 and on the geological interpretation of seismoacoustic investigations which were executed in selected parts of the area of the Baltic Sea and also on the base of the results of detailed engineering-geological research of some fragments of the sea bottom and the coastal zone in the area of western Pomerania. On this base, the authors present the engineering-geological units of the Polish Baltic soils on the depth of 10 and 20 m below the sea bottom. There were taken into account certain geological criteria such as a lithological type, genesis and age of deposits and also geotechnical criteria beside of resistane of shear (f) and resistance of compression (Rc), the next properties such as a index of density (ID ), index of liquidity (IL ), angle of internal friction (), cohesion (c).
