This paper shows the importance of the measurements of wall thickness of industrial apparatus elements, especially before their start up (they are input data). The data from such measurements were applied to estimate the suitability of the operation of atmospheric tanks. One of these tanks was equipped with mixing device. It was shown that the knowledge of the wall thickness permits the estimation the degre of their actual wearing away and can forecast the time for its futher work.
