The article deals with the main aspects and contemporary methods in 3D modelling of historical memorial structures in order to preserve objects of cultural heritage. Results of experiments using various combinations of software and technology have been presented: geographic information systems, ground laser scanning and computer graphics programs for rendering. On the basis of comparison between these methods and technologies, conclusions have been drawn, and recommendations for their application in the field of heritage preservation have been given.

W artykule przedstawiono metody badań powierzchniowych, wspierające prace kartograficzne, jak i monitoringowe, prowadzone w zakresie przeciwdziałania skutkom ruchów masowych. Wykorzystanie naziemnego, jak i lotniczego skaningu, umożliwia pozyskiwanie bardzo dokładnych modeli powierzchni terenu.

This article presents the methods of earth surface examination supporting cartographic and monitoring works aiming at the prevention of consequences of mass landslides. Thanks to ground and airborne scanning, it is possible to obtain very accurate models of earth surface. The practical usage of methods described in the article has indicated their great effectiveness while monitoring landslide activity and updating maps. These techniques primarily allow to collect very precise quantitative data for expansive landslides in a relatively short period of time. Furthermore, by using archive data (photogrametry, InSAR), it is also possible to examine the landslide activity in the past.
