Historical system of public green areas - untapped potential of towns - on the example of Ciechocinek

Historic green spaces in towns cities, especially those that build up a system of public areas, play an extremely important role in shaping the spatial structure of a town. These systems, often designed by excellent planners, architects and urbanists, are very durable elements of urban layouts and to a large extent determine the development of a town. This article presents the results of research on green areas in Ciechocinek conducted by the authors, from 2017 to 2022, as part of the statutory activities of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage. First of all, the functioning of a homogeneous system of public green areas in Ciechocinek is demonstrated, which clearly defines the character and specifitown of the town, and constitutes its enormous potential. The history of its formation and development, its characteristic features and values were presented, the state of preservation and threats were discussed, and actions were proposed to make full use of its potential. It emphasises the need to plan activities not only at the scale of the objects, but also in relation to the whole system, as it is their belonging to a larger whole that defines their essence and value.

Historyczne tereny zieleni w miastach, zwłaszcza te które budują system terenów publicznych, odgrywają niezwykle istotną rolę w kształtowaniu struktury przestrzennej miasta. Systemy te zaprojektowane często przez wyśmienitych planistów, architektów i urbanistów są bardzo trwałymi elementami układów urbanistycznych i w znacznym stopniu determinują rozwój miasta. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dot. terenów zieleni w Ciechocinku prowadzonych przez autorki, w latach 2017-2022 w ramach statutowej działalności Narodowego Instytutu Dziedzictwa. Przede wszystkim wykazano funkcjonowanie w Ciechocinku jednorodnego systemu publicznych terenów zieleni, który w sposób jednoznaczny określa charakter i specyfikę miasta, i stanowi jego olbrzymi potencjał. Przedstawiono historię jego formowania i rozwoju, charakterystyczne cechy i wartości, omówiono stan zachowania i zagrożenia oraz zaproponowano działania pozwalające w pełni wykorzystać jego potencjał. Podkreślono konieczność planowania działań nie tylko w skali obiektów, lecz również w odniesieniu do całego systemu, bowiem właśnie przynależność do większej całości określa ich istotę i wartość.

Thanks to brine springs, Ciechocinek is a well-known polish health resort. The article presented here, describes an analysis of the Ciechocinek urban green areas and its impact on the usability, functionality and aesthetics of public places. The concept of land development in the vicinity of Graduation Towers has been performed. The analyzes and design works presented in this study, will definitely increase the attractiveness of the city.

Ciechocinek jest znanym miastem uzdrowiskowym w Polsce dzięki źródłom solankowym. W artykule przedstawiono analizę terenów zieleni miejskiej Ciechocinka i jej wpływu na użyteczność, funkcjonalność i estetykę miejsc publicznych. Wykonano koncepcję zagospodarowania terenu w sąsiedztwie Tężni Solankowych. Dokonane analizy i prace projektowe wpłyną na zwiększenie atrakcyjności miasta.
