Several automobile manufacturers are interested in investigating of dual fuel internal combustion engines, due to high efficiency and low emissions. Many alternative fuels have been used in dual fuel mode for IC engine, such as methane, hydrogen, and natural gas. In the present study, a reactivity controlled compression ignition (RCCI) engine using gasoline/diesel (G/D) dual fuel has been investigated. The effect of mixing gasoline with diesel fuel on combustion characteristic, engine performance and emissions has been studied. The gasoline was injected in the engine intake port, to produce a homogeneous mixture with air. The diesel fuel was injected directly to the combustion chamber during compression stroke to initiate the combustion process. A direct injection compression ignition engine has been built and simulated using ANSYS Forte professional code. The gasoline amount in the simulation varied from (50%-80%) by volume. The diesel fuel was injected to the cylinder in two stages. The model has been validated and calibrated for neat diesel fuel using available data from the literature. The results show that the heat release rate and the cylinder pressure increased when the amount of added gasoline is between 50%-60% volume of the total injected fuels, compared to the neat diesel fuel. Further addition of gasoline will have a contrary effect. In addition, the combustion duration is extended drastically when the gasoline ratio is higher than 60% which results in an incomplete combustion. The NO emission decreased drastically as the gasoline ratio increased. Moreover, addition of gasoline to the mixture increased the engine power, thermal efficiency and combustion efficiency compared to neat diesel fuel.

The paper deals with concepts, designs and realizations of small ecological city vehicles. A small, electric car is anticipated to be a solution to city traffic problems. The evolution of a vehicle regarding the space necessary for its maneouvers and parking is the essential parameter of the analysis. The vehicles that have been constructed belong to L6e category. In the article four concepts of these vehicles are presented – a vehicle for a single person and a vehicle for two persons. The concepts of city vehicles worked out at the Cracow University of Technology are presented in the article. The result of introductory tests of function models worked out on the bases of concept models are also presented. The results that were obtained make drawing conclusion referring to further development of such vehicles possible.

W artykule przedstawiono koncepcje miejskich pojazdów oraz ich realizacje formie przedprototypów. Małe pojazdy miejskie wydają się być akceptowalnym rozwiązaniem problemów związanych z ruchem w aglomeracjach miejskich. Istotnymi cechami tego typu pojazdów powinna być ich bardzo dobra manewrowość oraz niewielka ilość przestrzeni niezbędna do zaparkowania. Jednocześnie te pojazdy powinny się charakteryzować osiągami zbliżonym ido typowych pojazdów kategorii A.. W pracy przedstawiono cztery koncepcje pojazdów miejskich i wyniki ich wstępnych badań. Wydaje się, że przedstawione koncepcje mogą stanowić materiał do dyskusje nad optymalnym rozwiązaniem zarówno punktu widzenia spełnia niania określonych funkcji jak kosztów przedsięwzięć.

W publikacji podjęto próbę wykazania związku pomiędzy działaniami mającymi na celu ograniczenie zanieczyszczeń środowiska, powstałych przy produkcji, eksploatacji i gospodarką odpadów a popytem na samochody, które identyfikuje się jako ekologiczne.

The paper deals with concepts, design and realization of a small ecological city car. A small, electric car is anticipated to be a solution to city traffic problems. The future users of a city electric car have been defined. City car should be characterized by the following features: low cost of purchase and maintenance, high functionality, possibilities of movement in zero emission zone, large space and easy access to luggage compartment, simplicity of parking manoeuvres, possibilities of customizing a car body features. These features made this car a perfect means of transport for the elder and disabled. Three versions of a city car with different drive lines are considered. The same car body for each version is proposed. The car chassis is also the same in each version. The version l of city car is made. It is an L6e class car. This prototype allows carrying out some research on a new electric motor, new kind of batteries and working out the control units for cooperation between the electric motor and generator. In the paper the basic performances of the car are presented and its main parł the structure is shown. Features of the next version of small ecological city car are described as well as their advantages.
