The aim of this study was to analyse the chemical composition of the gramineous vegetation planted in 1997, in the areas reclaimed by the sewage sludge from Świnoujście (Poland) municipal sewage treatment plant. Grasses were introduced into the soil-less ground after the application of sewage sludge, containing a considerable amount of zinc, copper and lead, at the dose of 120 t-ha exp. -1. Chemical analyses included the content of: macroelements (K, P, Mg, Ca and Na), heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Hg) and chloroorganic substances (y-HCH, HCB, DDT, DDE, DDD, I DDT, PCB). During the whole period (1998 - 2000) the gramineous vegetation was found to have a favourable content of macroelements (K, P, Mg, Ca and Na) and relatively high, exceeding permissible concentrations, contents of copper, zinc manganese, iron, nickel. The content of chloroorganic compounds was also unfavourable (y-HCH and PCB). Chemical analyses of the plant material showed that it can be used as a component of compost.
