An adaptation of IoT to improve parcel delivery system

Recently, IoT technology has been applied in various field. Especially this IoT technology can also be applied to delivery system. Current delivery system is high costly but somewhat inefficient. A delivery must go through the logistics hub, even if it's not a minimum distance. In this paper, we propose an enhanced parcel delivery system based on IoT technology. Firstly, we designed a sort of IoT devices which can be attached parcels. This devices has various functionalities including the ability to figure out current delivery route. Secondly, we introduce some difficulties such as : (i) issues linking IoT device into its platform; (ii) issues for designing IoT devices functionalities. Thirdly, we propose ways to improve the efficiency of IoT based parcel delivery system. From these considerations, our system may improve total economics of parcel delivery system.

W artykule przedstawiono problematykę planowania dystrybucji towarów w warunkach niepewności. Wskazano obszary dystrybucji, które w rzeczywistych problemach mają charakter stochastyczny. Główną uwagę poświecono stochastycznemu zagadnieniu układania tras pojazdów. Dokonano przeglądu literatury pod kątem identyfikacji elementów problemu układania tras pojazdów, które charakteryzowane są w literaturze losowości. Przedstawiono także strategie rozwiązywania tego problemu. Następnie przedstawiono matematyczny model problemu układania tras pojazdów ze stochastycznym czasem podróży i obsługi w punktach.

The article presents the problem of the goods distribution planning under the uncertainty conditions. The areas of distribution, which are stochastic in the real problems were determined. The main attention was given to the stochastic vehicle routing problem. A review of the literature in order to identify the elements of the vehicle routing problem, which are characterized by randomness was made. Also strategies for resolving this problem were presented. Then a mathematical model of the vehicle routing problem with the stochastic travel and service time was presented.

Artykuł ten ma na celu przekazanie podstawowych informacji na temat logistyki miejskiej, miejskich centrów logistycznych i transportu szynowego. Zidentyfikowano problemy logistyki miejskiej oraz podano możliwości ich rozwiązania. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na wykorzystanie tramwaju towarowego jako jednej z możliwości poprawy dystrybucji towarów na obszarze miasta. Przedstawiono możliwości i zalety transportu kolejowego oraz ograniczenia jego wdrożenia.

The article presents basic information on city logistics, urban logistic centre and railway transport. The autor identifies possible area of city logistics problems and suggests possible solutions. Then the paper has been focus attention of using freight tram as a one.s of possibilities of goods distribution on the city area. The possibilities and advantages of railway transport and limits its application have been presented.
