Attempts to find what is architecture became almost frantic. One could say that instead of increasing quality of architecture we are trying to develop its definition. However, knowledge of definition and scope of architecture are necessary. First, they indicate buildings (urban complexes) which are examples of so called „good architecture". Secondly, they point out those of us who are crossing borders - and it is up to us to say we are face new directions in architecture or to deny proposals as „no architecture". To be successful we have to remember that it is kind of „fight on architecture" and a stake in this game are freedom of the individual and democracy.

The pursuit of a perfect form in architecture is expressed through styles. There also exists architecture disregarding this principle, escaping into oddity, tawdriness and flamboyance. Its name is kitsch. Kitschy architecture is judged by other rules than its non-kitschy equivalent. This paper isolates three flavours of kitsch: „creative", „neutral" and „destructive", and attempts to identify their individual features.

Every determination of boundaries between good and bad architecture is a continuous process, which does not present significant economical consequences. Such opinion is formed spontaneus as a resultant of many opinions of groups of audiences. In fact a qualification of projects of buildings, just being rivaled in a competition to be build, is more difficult and more responsible task. There are widespread consequences of the boundary between good and bad architecture and at the same time such decision is taken by narrow circle of arbiters.
