The aim of the article is to recognize the essence of global competence for effective functioning on the global labor market. Global competence is understood as the ability to interact effectively in international and intercultural environments. The concept of global competence is based on mutual respect and an attitude of openness to cultural diversity. Presented study refers to the significance and necessity of global competence analyzed in literature concerning contemporary educational challenges.

The purpose of the article is to examine selected examples of types of security education in Poland. At the beginning of the 20th century, national security was centered on military and political aspects, but recent decades have seen the successive shifting of the focus from the military-political plane of security to other areas. It seems that educational concepts adapt to emerging challenges. This thesis is confi rmed by the concept of global education, the idea of military classes, as well as the military training of pro-defensive organisations within the framework of the Passport Program. All of these educational concepts were covered in the study. One of the most important conclusions of the article will be to emphasise the correlation between the evolution of the understanding of security, the transformation of threats and changes in the field of educational concepts.

W artykule stawiam tezę, że w strategiach oświatowych zbyt słaby akcent kładzie się na zagadnienia związane z kształtowaniem świadomości ekologicznej, zorientowanej na holistyczną percepcję człowieka i przyrody. Przedstawiono tu antagonistyczne wizje i wybrane perspektywy postrzegania środowiska przyrodniczego oraz najczęściej przywoływane argumenty w dyskusjach – pomiędzy zwolennikami antropocentryzmu i propagatorami biocentryzmu.

In this article, I propose a thesis that in educational strategies too weak emphasis is placed on the issues of shaping environmental awareness, oriented on holistic perception of human beings and nature. I presented antagonistic visions and selected perceptions of the natural environment and the most frequently quoted arguments in the discussions – between the supporters of anthropocentrism and the propagators of biocentrism.
