The paper deals with the problem of global and local approach of modern architecture. Present architecture, irrespective of time and epoch, has always carried the birth-marks of architecture of international character. Development, progress and modernity always have connection with the flow of information. Since the onset of the Internet, easy access and exchange of information have become quicker and easier than ever in history of civilization. In the history of architecture, we can often encounter buildings whose culturally alien forms were imposed. What is interesting, the alien formalism with years can become rooted in tradition of place, or even became a new value in its identity. Global architecture in a historical city can be divided in to two groups: -global in the sense of modernity, designed by well-known international architectural offices, the forms of which can exist anywhere in the word, -global in the sense of representing global companies as a part of their easily recognizable logo. Architecture is in this case a packaging for the marketed product. Being packaging it has to evoke clear associations and attract the customer, and on the other hand it has to be practical and cheap. Globalization in the field of architecture, as in other fields is connected with brands and logos. Well-known architects are brands recognized worldwide, easily identified by elaborated photos of their faces glancing at customers, as well as their buildings - icons of individual studios. In the last years, next to globalization, comprehended rather as a negative aspect of our epoch, and contrasted locality, a new word 'glocal' has appeared. The term 'the glocal city' refers to the present situation of cities, which in the face of changes in geo-political, cultural, commercial, ecological situation, exist locally and simultaneously globally. A glocal city simultaneously exists in both local and global realities -a specific place on Earth as well as globally and virtually: in the Internet. The paper shows how the global forces clash with local tradition and what may the possible result look like. Lublin is an example of an average city, of an average size, in a country of average wealth. The Present architecture and architecture of the Future should be balanced between global and local, and this is what we can call a glocal approach.
