The subject of the work is the rarely discussed issue of the sexuality of the elderly. The article describes the sexuality of people in the "autumn of life". The aim of this work is to draw attention to the need to promote sexual health, as well as to prevent sexual disorders. A review of 34 literature items on various aspects of sexuality in the elderly was made: physiology, psyche, and social significance. There are restrictions on the intimate sphere resulting from the need for older people to stay in care and treatment facilities, social welfare homes. Love is presented as a biochemical process to show that it does not depend only on the changing corporeality of a person and that its epicenter is in the brain. The change of the hierarchy of sexual needs occurring with age, the evolution of the art of love from procreation to pleasure and sensuality are presented. Conclusion: the sexuality of seniors is an important sphere of their everyday life and has a large impact on functioning in society, as well as on the perception of their own attractiveness and self-acceptance.

Tematem pracy jest rzadko poruszane zagadnienie seksualności osób starszych. Artykuł opisuje seksualność ludzi w "jesieni życia”. Celem tej pracy jest zwrócenie uwagi na konieczność promocji zdrowia seksualnego, a także na prewencję zaburzeń seksualnych. Dokonano przeglądu 34 pozycji piśmiennictwa na temat różnych aspektów seksualności ludzi w podeszłym wieku: fizjologii, psychiki, znaczenia społecznego. Istnieją ograniczenia sfery intymnej wynikające z konieczności przebywania starszych osób w zakładach opiekuńczo-leczniczych, domach pomocy społecznej. Przedstawiono miłość jako proces biochemiczny, by ukazać, że nie zależy ona tylko od zmieniającej się cielesności człowieka oraz że jej epicentrum znajduje się w mózgu. Zaprezentowano zmianę hierarchii potrzeb seksualnych zachodzącą z wiekiem, ewolucję sztuki miłosnej z prokreacyjnej na korzyść przyjemności, sensualności. Wniosek: seksualność seniorów jest ważną sferą ich życia codziennego i ma duży wpływ na funkcjonowanie w społeczeństwie, a także na postrzeganie własnej atrakcyjności i samoakceptację.

Technological solutions involving cameras can contribute to safety in home and healthcare, but they pose privacy issues. We use a low-resolution infrared thermopile array sensor, which offers more privacy, to determine if the user is on the bed. Two datasets were captured, one under constant conditions, and a second one under different variations. We test three machine learning algorithms under 10-fold cross validation, with the highest accuracy in the main dataset being 99%. The results with variable data show a lower reliability under certain circumstances, highlighting the need of extra work to meet the challenge of variations in the environment.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of obesity and age on body balance disorders in women over 60, especially whether obesity increases the FR in older females and whether age and obesity affect the same stabilographic parameters when it comes to the FR. Methods: The study consisted of 56 inactive females aged 71.77 ± 7.43 (SD). They were divided into groups according to age and obesity. Results: Obesity separately affects FRI12-6, static indicators with eyes closed (OSI EC, APSI EC, MLSI EC), and age affects FRI12-6 and static indices with eyes open (OSI EO, APSI EO). After considering design factors (age and obesity), there were statistically significant differences in OSI EO ( p = 0.027), APSI EO (p = 0.034), FRI12-6 ( p = 0.0002) between obese and non-obese participants in the age groups. There were no statistical differences between non-obese old and obese-young participants ( p = 0.863). The interaction between obesity and age in the FR in static indices and in FRI12-6 ( p = 0.73047) was not significant. Conclusions: Age and obesity affect the stabilographic parameters individually, but there is no interaction effect between them. The presence of only one of the above risk factors may increase the FR. Obesity affects stability, while age depends on other factors. If older people are not obese or fit, involutional changes could be reversed. The type of obesity and the location of the fat tissue should be taken into account in FR assessment.

IoT increasingly permeates the public area, e.g., in traffic control and public transport. We propose to equip conventional urban objects with IoT technology to transform them into Smart Urban Objects (SUO's). While there exists some research exploring the potentials, specific solutions to enhance safety for the elderly outdoors are still lacking. The elderly's safety is threatened due to declining physical conditions. As a consequence, the elderly may be excluded from outdoor activities such as participating in major events. Against this backdrop, we design SUOs for adaptive indications of urban hazards, barrierfree passages and for smart reservation of seats to enhance resting possibilities. We report on our solution using Bluetooth technology for remote sensing of older pedestrians serving as input for the objects' adaptive capacities. The SUOs have been installed for test purposes on a major event in a larger German city.

The irreversible process of demographic change, especially in Germany, leads to numerous challenges. According to this, research has to face the task to integrate the constantly ageing population into the urban and public space in such a way that there are as few barriers as possible. With the support of digitalization, so-called smart urban objects are being designed in order to do make integration, so that people and the available technology can be used most efficiently. A special ontology has been developed to meet this demand.

Starzenie się społeczeństw rozwiniętych stawia nowe wyzwania w zakresie opieki nad seniorami. Monitorowanie codziennej aktywności, w tym parametrów chodu, daje istotne informacje o kondycji. Praca prezentuje pilotażowe pomiary aktywności seniorów Domu Pomocy Społecznej Św. Elżbieta w Rudzie Śląskiej. Pomiarom poddano 38 osób o zróżnicowanym poziomie sprawności i aktywności ocenianej według wiedzy ich opiekunów. Pozyskane dane pomiarowe poddano analizie celem wydzielenia czasów aktywności oraz wybranych parametrów chodu. Dzięki wyznaczanym wartościom liczbowym opiekun może zrewidować opinię o swoich podopiecznych. Otrzymane wyniki wskazują na przydatność takich rozwiązań w codziennej opiece nad seniorami oraz w planowaniu rehabilitacji.

Aging of the developed societies creates new challenges for medical care of the elderly. Monitoring of daily activities provides useful information about patient's condition. This paper presents a pilot study of activity monitoring of seniors living in the residential home St. Elisabeth in Ruda Śląska. The study was performed on 38 seniors with various fitness and activity levels according to the knowledge of their caregivers. The obtained data allowed to determine the activity time and chosen gait parameters. The results enable caregivers to update opinion on their patients and show usefulness of such solutions in daily care of the elderly, as well as in rehabilitation planning.

Artykuł przedstawia koncepcję systemu telemedycznego służącego do przypominania i zdalnej kontroli zażywania leków przez pacjentów geriatrycznych i psychiatrycznych. Motywację do powstania koncepcji systemu stanowią problemy pacjentów geriatrycznych i psychiatrycznych związane z zapominaniem o regularnym zażywaniu leków. Głosowy sposób komunikacji z pacjentem został wybrany z uwagi na ewentualne trudności takich pacjentów w posługiwaniu się aplikacjami z interfejsem graficznym.

This article presents a concept architecture of a telemedicine system designed to remind and to remotely control taking medication by geriatric and mental patients. The idea of the system emerged because of the problems of such patients in correct and regular medication taking. Due to possible problems related to using computer graphical interfaces, we have chosen a voice transmission as a method of comunication with such patients.

Advanced technologies are effectively used in healthcare applications. One of areas is support of taking care of older adults, which is a growing problem in contemporary societies. The research results in designing new systems and solutions, dedicated to solve particular problems or to cover the caretaking problem in general. Among such systems and solutions, the special ones are systems designed to help to solve the fall detection problem. In this paper, the review of such solutions is presented, advantages and disadvantages are discussed. The novel conception of such system is presented and discussed and conclusion is drawn.

Ochrona zdrowia coraz efektywniej wykorzystuje rozwiązania, oparte na nowoczesnych technologiach. Jednym z obszarów ich stosowania są systemy wspierania opieki nad osobami starszymi, które to zagadnienie stanowi narastający problem współczesnych społeczeństw. Wyniki badań pozwalają na projektowanie różnorodnych systemów i urządzeń, zarówno przeznaczonych do rozwiązywania określonego problemu opieki, jak też wspierających cały proces. Pośród nich szczególną klasę stanowią rozwiązania przeznaczone do wspomagania nadzorowania możliwości wystąpienia upadku. W niniejszym artykule zaprezentowano przegląd istniejących rozwiązań w tej klasie i omówiono ich charakterystykę. Przedstawiono także nowatorską koncepcję systemu tej klasy.
