The analysis of development of the various types of music in the spatial context and of the spatial impact of music appeared in the research field of the traditionally understood cultural geography in the 1970s, and was often supplemented by humanistic interpretation in later times. One of the basic issues studied within this field has been the spread of rock music in various countries of the world, with the first works devoted to a geographical analysis of rock appearing in the United States in the 1970s. The present paper seeks to reconstruct the development of rock in Poland in a spatial context on the basis of a press review and monographs addressing popular music in Poland. Another interesting research stream in traditional cultural geography has been the analysis of life-paths of eminent composers in a spatial-cultural dimension, e.g. the spatial-cultural determinants of W.A. Mozart's activity as composer. Inspired by this example, the authors outline the musical activity of other European and Polish composers.
