The paper analyses the impact that the construction of water mist extinguishers exerts on the size of generated drops. The test was based on the examination of three extinguishers of two producers, which have been available in the market in recent years. The test was carried out with the use of the IPS Drop Spectrum Analyzer (DSA). The device operates by using the photoelectric method to measure the parameters of the extinguishing stream microstructure. There were two measuring ranges: 0_1 414 μm and 0_2 658 μm. The test results present mean diameters of the generated drops, aggregated curves representative of their share as well as the analysis of the quality of spraying the extinguishing medium. The tests have shown that two out of three tested extinguishers do not generate water mist with standard parameters at a distance of 170 cm. The smallest mean diameters of drops were generated by extinguisher B, whereas the biggest ones by extinguisher C The highest level of spraying among all samples was found for extinguisher B. It’s Sauter diameter mean amounted to 564.03 μm. Further, it was shown what impact the construction of water mist extinguishers exerts on the size of generated drops.

Gaśnica (do 20 kg), to przenośne urządzenie gaśnicze, które praktycznie powinno znajdować się w zasięgu ręki w każdym miejscu publicznym. Czy jednak każdy z nas wie jak używa się gaśnic lub czy jedną gaśnicą możemy gasić każdy rodzaj pożaru? Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przybliżenie czytelnikowi podstawowych zagadnień związanych z rodzajami gaśnic i pożarów, jakie dany typ gaśnicy może ugasić. To czy dany typ gaśnicy sprawdzi się do gaszenia danej klasy pożaru musi zostać potwierdzone przez badania normowe skuteczności gaśniczej. Dla bezpieczeństwa naszego i naszych najbliższych każdy z nas powinien umieć uruchomić gaśnice i nie bać się jej użyć, bo tylko szybka reakcja może uchronić przed nieszczęściem. Z drugiej strony powinniśmy mieć świadomość pierwszej reakcji ognia na użycie gaśnicy i umieć się przed tą reakcją zabezpieczyć.

Portable fire extinguishers (20 kg) should be practically within reach in every public place. But does each of us know how to use fire extinguishers? Can one type of extinguisher put out any kind of fire? The purpose of this article is to familiarize the reader with the basic issues related to the types of fire extinguishers and types of fires, which given kind of extinguisher can put out. Whether a type of extinguisher will work to extinguish a particular class of fire must be confirmed by standard tests of the firefighting effectiveness. For our and our loved ones safety, each of us should be able to start the fire extinguishers and not be afraid to use it. Because only rapid response can prevent disaster. Nevertheless, we should be aware the first response of the fire, and we have to know how to be prepared for such a reaction.

Podręczny sprzęt gaśniczy, zwłaszcza gaśnice przenośne, przeznaczony jest do stosowania przez osoby nie posiadające profesjonalnego przeszkolenia z zakresu postępowania przy gaszeniu pożarów. Stosowanie takiego sprzętu powinno zapewniać względne bezpieczeństwo osobom podejmującym się akcji gaśniczej oraz osobom postronnym. Dotyczy to zwłaszcza przypadków, w których rodzaj środka gaśniczego oraz sposób jego podawania mogą zagrażać operatorowi gaśnicy. Norma PN-EN 3-7 narzuca gaśnicom przeznaczonym do gaszenia pożarów grupy F szereg wymagań, które muszą zapewnić skuteczność działań i bezpieczeństwo ich stosowania. Jednym z nich jest informacja o minimalnej odległości gaszenia, która powinna być podana na etykiecie gaśnicy, co w praktyce nie zawsze ma miejsce. Przeprowadzone badania polegały na gaszeniu pożaru oleju spożywczego z małej odległości i oceny skutków gaszenia, zwłaszcza: wyrzutów płonącego oleju, wzrostu wysokości płomienia, wykipienia zawartości tacy do spalania. Stwierdzono, że w większości przypadków, gaszenie z odległości mniejszej niż 1 m gaśnicami przeznaczonymi do gaszenia pożarów grupy F, może stanowić poważne zagrożenie dla użytkownika gaśnicy.

Portable extinguishers are intended for use by people who have no professional training of the procedures for extinguishing fires. The use of such equipment should provide the relative safety for persons undertaking the fire fighting as well as for third parties. This is especially true in cases where the type of extinguishing agent and the method of application may endanger the extinguisher operator. PN-EN 3-7 standard imposes a number of requirements, needed to ensure the efficiency and safety of use, on extinguishers designed to extinguish class F fires. One of them is information about the minimum operating distance, which should be stated on the extinguisher label, which in practice is not always the case. The study consisted of cooking oil fires fighting at close range, using extinguishers of different types, and fire impact assessment, in particular: splattering of burning oil, an increase of flame, boiling over the content of the test tray. It was found that in most cases, fighting cooking oil fire from a distance of less than 1 m, even using fire extinguishers designed to extinguish class F fires, may pose a serious risk to an extinguisher user.

W niniejszym artykule zdefiniowano podział gaśnic przenośnych ze względu na możliwość wykorzystania do określonych grup pożarów, zastosowany środek gaśniczy, sposób umieszczenia czynnika roboczego, wielkość napełnienia. Ponadto wyjaśniono sposób ich oznakowania stosowany przez producentów oraz przedstawiono budowę etykiety opisowej. W dalszej części opisano najważniejsze parametry techniczno-użytkowe charakteryzujące gaśnice (skuteczność gaśnicza, odporność na korozję zewnętrzną i wewnętrzną, czas działania) oraz sposoby ich ustalania.

In the herein article the division of portable fire-extinguishers was defined as regards: the usage for particular types of fires, fire-extinguishing measures made use of, the way of placing a working factor, the size of repletion. Moreover the way of their marking used by producers was explained and the structure of description label was presented. Furthermore, the most important technical-usage parameters which characterize fire-extinguishers were described (fire-extinguisher efficacy, resistance to external and internal corrosion, the reaction time) and the way of their establishing as well.

Obok specjalistycznego sprzętu do prowadzenia wszelkich działań ratowniczo-gaśniczych, stanowiącego wyposażenia Państwowej i Ochotniczych Straży Pożarnych, ważną rolę w systemie zwalczania pożarów odgrywa podręczny sprzęt gaśniczy, który przeznaczony jest do gaszenia pożarów w zarodku przed przybyciem zastępów PSP lub OSP. Wprawdzie sprzęt podręczny służy częściej osobom na co dzień nie związanym z ochroną przeciwpożarową, niemniej wiedza z zakresu jego obsługi i stosowania musi być (jak cała wiedza pożarnicza) przede wszystkim znana strażakom oraz specjalistom zakresu bezpieczeństwa pożarowego.

Except professional equipment used for performing all rescue and fire fighting actions constituting the equipment of National and Volunteer Fire Services, hand firefighting which is assigned extinguishing early stage fires PSP or OSP fire brigade arrival, plays on important role in the system of fighting fires admittedly the hand equipment more often serves people usually not connected with fire protection, nonetheless the knowledge in the scope of its service and applying (must be like all the firefighting knowledge) most of all known for fireman and for specialists of the scope of the fire safety.
