Fuzzy SQL queries in standard SQL database

Uncertain queries are very common in many areas of human activity. The problem can be seen particularly in medicine, where expressions like ”very high”, ”low”, ”normal” are commonly used in order to describe different information. However, the most popular data repositories do not allow to form imprecise queries in order to filter information. Therefore, the paper proposes an extension to the standard SQL language allowing anybody to profit from fuzzy database using any SQL engine. The existing approaches employ different mechanisms in order to allow the user to perform fuzzy queries on a database. The most complex solutions modify the database engine itself. However, such approach is strongly bound to the modified server version and must be updated with any development of the original server. Nevertheless, there is possible to store fuzzy information using for instance columns of regular relational database. Therefore, this approach proposes extensions to the query language allowing to use fuzzy information in a query and provides a parser transforming a fuzzy query into a standard SQL. Thus, the database server version is irrelevant. The solution is provided as a module written in multi-platform Java language using popular JDBC database connection.

At the conceptual stage of design, designers only have vague ideas of initial shapes which they gradually refine. These imprecise shapes may be specified by a set of fuzzy shape descriptors which represent the intent of a designer. It is also desirable to be able to save them in a database for future reference or for use as initial shapes for new designs. Most research on fuzzy databases has been focused on theoretical aspects while a fuzzy database is rarely seen in practice, especially in the design area. This paper aims to construct a fuzzy shape database to support shape design by integrating fuzzy data processing and fuzzy querying functions into a conventional database. A possibility-based framework is used for a fuzzy relational database model.

Maintenance has to respond to new expectations like safety and environmental regulations, product quality and increasing pressure to achieve high plant availability and minimize overall equipment life cycle cost. In this paper, we demonstrate the use of risk-based maintenance planning which is one of main goals of Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM). The inspection planning is used to asses the safety and reliability of system components and to increase the ability of failure identification before it can occur. The fuzzy relational database model is used to perform multi criteria search over database. In order to illustrate advantages of this solution, an example is shown.

Eksploatacja oraz serwisowanie urządzeń technicznych są procesami, które muszą zapewnić realizację wciąż rosnących oczekiwań związanych z bezpieczeństwem, normami ochrony środowiska i jakością produktu. Optymalizacja serwisowania ma na celu zwiększenie dyspozycyjności przy jednoczesnej minimalizacji kosztów LCC. Analiza ryzyka jest najważniejszym elementem metodologii kształtowania serwisu RCM (ang. Reliability Centered Maintenance). W pracy przedstawiono model relacyjnej rozmytej bazy danych umożliwiającej planowanie serwisu z wykorzystaniem analizy ryzyka. Zalety proponowanego rozwiązania pokazano na przykładzie.

W pracy pokazano sposób rozszerzenia klasycznego modelu reprezentacji danych o elementy rozmyte. Przedstawiono różne podejścia do reprezentacji rozmytych baz danych, a także poruszono problem bliskości i redundacji danych rozmytych, wskazując na istniejące rozwiązania.
