Due to the condensation and functional intensification, strongly built-up metropolitan areas are a place of strong investment pressure that results in displacing elements of the natural environment. The consequences of this phenomenon include disturbances in the functional and spatial structure of the city that are observable in various aspects, such as natural and social conditioning, breaking links within the natural system, which in turn leads to the impairment of its functioning, reduction in the level of resistance to dynamic changes, reduction in biodiversity. Therefore, nowadays paying closer attention to the possibility of implementing natural elements within the city structure seems to be one of the main foundations for creating a permanent and sustainable urban environment. The 1990s, as well as the first 15 years of the 21st century witnessed an intensive development in terms of searching for a modern complement to the so-called broken links within the natural system. The solutions introduced in order to improve the situation comprised complementing the elements of the city green infrastructure network by means of introducing, in particular, green roofs. Research conducted on such installations confirms the essential need for their introduction, as well as provides strong arguments that support the benefits obtained from the existence of such roofs.

Silnie zabudowane obszary metropolii z racji kondensacji i intensyfikacji funkcjonalnej są miejscem silnej presji inwestycyjnej wypierającej elementy środowiska przyrodniczego. Pociąga to za sobą konsekwencje zaburzeń struktury funkcjonalno-przestrzennej miasta w różnorodnych aspektach, m.in. uwarunkowań przyrodniczych, społecznych, zrywane są powiązania systemu przyrodniczego, co prowadzi do upośledzenia jego funkcjonowania, obniżenia odporności na dynamiczne zmiany, zmniejszania bioróżnorodności. Dlatego zwrócenie uwagi na możliwości implementacji elementów naturalnych okazuje się być jedną z głównych podstaw budowania trwałego i zrównoważonego środowiska miejskiego. Lata 90. XX wieku oraz pierwsze 15-lecie XXI w. ukazują intensywny rozwój poszukiwań nowoczesnego uzupełniania „przerwanych ogniw” systemu przyrodniczego poprzez poszerzenie elementów sieci zielonej infrastruktury m.in. za pomocą zielonych dachów, a prowadzone na nich badania ugruntowują niezbędną potrzebę i dają mocne argumenty na rzecz takich instalacji.

Humans are a part of nature and society. They tend to satisfy their needs that guarantee the existence by using natural and social richness. Forests represent a reservoir of the natural richness. They perform economic, ecological and social functions. The paper presents characterization of the social functions of forests, with particular focus on health function, recreation and tourism function, educational function and cultural function. With specific categories of forests, the scope of organizational and managerial activities conducted by forest authorities was presented as determining factors in performance of these functions. Furthermore, the focus was on the negative factors that affect forest environment and its functions.

W przestrzeni tureckich miast parki odgrywają istotną rolę. Są one nie tylko miejscami o charakterze rekreacyjnym i wypoczynkowym, ale pełnią ważną funkcję socjalizującą. W tym celu w tureckich parkach miejskich umieszcza się wiele miejsc, w których możliwe jest nawiązanie kontaktów o charakterze społecznym. Parki miejskie w Turcji przyczyniają się zatem do tworzenia więzi międzyludzkich, dzięki którym podnoszony jest standard życia mieszkańców miasta. Alâeddin Tepesi jest przykładem wzgórza parkowego, którego historia i obecne zagospodarowanie predestynuje do bycia jednym z najważniejszych centrów życia społecznego Konyi. Podkreślić należy, iż dzięki odpowiedniemu kreowaniu przestrzeni polskich parków miejskich, również można będzie uzyskać efekt niezbędnej w dzisiejszych czasach intensyfikacji relacji społecznych.

In the area of Turkish cities parks play an extremely important role. They are not only places for taking a rest, but also fulfill a social function. In Turkish urban parks there are put up numerous places, in which possible becomes making of social contacts. In that way urban parks in Turkey contribute to creating social ties, thanks to which increase the standard of living of the inhabitants. Alâeddin Tepesi is an example of park hill, which history and present development makes one of the most important centres of social life in Konya. It should be stressed, that thanks to proper creating of Polish urban parks we can also reach an effect of necessary intensification of social relations.
