The article presents some results of initial research, which are supposed to check the possibility of the application of the typical knock sensor, which is normally used to the spark ignition engine to detect the knock. The comparative analysis of the signals of head vibration and pulse pressure in the cylinder shows a huge similarity of both signals during the combustion stage. The head vibrations, with huge amplitude and frequency similar to the frequency occurring during the combustion, occur during the remaining time of the work cycle. This vibration appears during the valve overlap and during the closing of the inlet valve. It also occurs at the huge load during the opening of the injector. The vibrations may be the result of the strike caused by the closing valve in the valve seat and also by the flow phenomenon: the air in the valve and the fuel in the injector nozzle. The example of the piston damage due with knock combustion , the schema of the dynamometric engine test stand, example runs of pressure changes in cylinder and in the injection pipe, lift variations of nozzle needle, signal from knock sensor, course vibrations of engine head, spectral analysis of engine head engine head and the value of maximum amplitudes vibrations of engine head are presented in paper.
