Energy security is the economy’s resistance to possible disturbances in current and future coverage of the recipients’ supply with fuel and energy maintaining technical, economic and environmental requirements. While characterising the level of Poland’s energy security, the author focused on its factors such as the balance between supply and demand for fuel and energy, the level of balance and diversification of energy carriers, diversification level of the supply sources, technical state and effectiveness of the fuel and energy transmission systems, fuel stores, economic conditions of energy plants’ functioning and local energy security. Evaluating the level of security under analysis, one can state that it is on a satisfactory level. A country conducting a liberal economy has a great role to fulfil in the area of creating this type of security. Firstly, it can lead to the strategy of foreign trade policy that involves the integration of trade, economy and security while striving to opening foreign markets and securing it against political instability. In the area of interior policy these should be legal conditions to support the restructuring process of the country energy system, the system of renewable energy sources, applying energy saving technologies and better energy management. Apart from this, the state ought to support actions to create new conditions for investors who will invest in energy sources and in the energy network. There is still much to be done in this respect.
