As an important component of the fuel injection system, the fuel injector is crucial for ensuring the power, economy, and emissions for a whole ME (machine electronically-controlled) marine diesel engine. However, injectors are most prone to failures such as reduced pressure at the opening valve, clogged spray holes and worn needle valves, because of the harsh working conditions. The failure characteristics are non-stationary and non-linear. Therefore, to efficiently extract fault features, an improved refined composite multi-scale dispersion entropy (IRCMDE) is proposed, which uses the energy distribution of sampling points as weights for coarse-grained calculation, then fast correlation-based filter (FCBF) and support vector machine (SVM) are used for feature selection and fault classification, respectively. The experimental results from a MAN B&W 6S35ME-B9 marine diesel engine show that the proposed algorithm can achieve 92.12% fault accuracy for injector faults, which is higher than multiscale dispersion entropy (MDE), refined composite multiscale dispersion entropy (RCMDE) and multiscale permutation entropy (MPE). Moreover, the experiment has also proved that, due to the double-walled structure of the high-pressure fuel pipe, the fuel injection pressure signal is more accurate than the vibration signal in reflecting the injector operating conditions.

The article presents the possibilities of using artificial intelligence methods to model the injection doses of a modern Common Rail (CR) fuel injector. The presented neural network solution belongs to the experimental models known as black boxes in mechatronics. The backpropagation algorithm and its Levenberg-Marquardt expansion were used for the simulation. The analysis showed that there is a good match between the measurements and the computational model. The proposed solution can be used in the processes of diagnosing not only elements of the injection equipment, but also the internal combustion engine.

The article describes a method for analyzing and solving problem situations with the use of Su-Field models and 76 inventive standards. These tools are part of the “Theory of Inventive Problem Solving”. The author has presented the basic concepts of Su-Field models, including in the compilation of the most commonly used substances their fields and types of interactions in Su-Field models. The inventive standards have also been presented and grouped. Attempts have been made to solve two undesirable situations that occur during the operation of a complex technical system, which is the fuel injector of the self-ignition engine. Problem situations related to insufficient impact were modelled - too low tightening of the injector spring, and negative (harmful) interaction - erosive wear of the holes in the atomizer nozzle. Using the inventive standards of Class-1 and Class-2, general solutions to these problems have been found. After the transformation, exemplary detailed ways of solving the aforementioned problems have been presented in order to improve the design of the injector for these models. A summary and comments on the applicability of the presented methodology, regarding such complex technical systems, have also been presented.

W artykule przedstawiono pompę wtryskową układu Common Rail typu CP1H, która pracowała na zanieczyszczonym dodatkami zawierającymi wodór paliwie. Pokazano, w jaki sposób można zdiagnozować pompę wtryskową, rozmontowaną na części składowe oraz poddano badaniom mikroskopowym. W referacie została omówiona budowa badanej pompy oraz zasada działania. Podczas badań zostały przedstawione najbardziej newralgiczne elementy pompy. Przedstawiono również miejsca pompy, w których tworzą się niebezpieczne metaliczne opiłki oraz omówiono metody im zapobiegania.

The aim of this study was to analyse the possibilities of improving the ecological parameters of compression – ignition CI engines. During the analysis of exhaust gas, attention was mainly paid to the emission of nitrogen oxides and carbon black soot. A method was proposed to reduce the above chemical elements in CI – engine exhaust fumes by using the annular channels on the non-working part of the fuel injector needle and applying a platinum catalyst on them. The task of these annular channels is to mix and agitate the fuel before injection to the combustion chamber and to enlarge the contact surface area of catalyst. The task of catalytic coating is to initiate the reaction of dehydrogenation of paraffinic hydrocarbons to olefinic ones with a free hydrogen molecule. Hydrogen, owing to its properties, can shorten the period of delay of spontaneous ignition of combustible mixture in the engine combustion chamber, which affects the entire combustion process and improves the ecological parameters of a CI engine.

This paper discusses the modeling of a fuel injector to be applied in a two-stroke diesel engine. A one-dimensional model of a diesel injector was modeled in the AVL Hydsim. The research assumption is that the combustion chamber will be supplied with one or two spray injectors with a defined number of nozzle holes. The diameter of the nozzle holes was calculated for the defined options to provide a correct fuel amount for idling and the maximum load. There was examined the fuel mass per injection and efficient flow area. The studies enabled us to optimize the injector nozzle, given the option of fuel injection into the combustion chamber to be followed.

W artykule omówiony został problem trwałości pary precyzyjnej wtryskiwacza paliwa w układzie Common Rail. Przeprowadzono badania zużycia pary precyzyjnej iglicy i rozpylacza stanowiących integralną część wtryskiwacza elektromagnetycznego w układzie zasilania typu Common Rail silnika o zapłonie samoczynnym. Do oceny właściwości tribologicznych wykorzystano badania na tribotesterze T-05 w skojarzeniu rolka-klocek. Wyznaczono najważniejsze parametry eksploatacyjne, niezbędne do odzwierciedlenia rzeczywistych warunków eksploatacji. Na podstawie ww. wytycznych przeprowadzono badania wstępne umożliwiające określenie głównych mechanizmów zużywania i momentu zatarcia co pozwoliło na prognozowanie trwałości badanego węzła tarcia. Do badań wykorzystano rzeczywiste materiały, które są przeznaczane do współpracy w danym skojarzeniu, tj. szybkotnąca stal narzędziowa (HS 6-5-2) oraz stal narzędziowa 100Cr6 po obróbce cieplnej. W celu walidacji uzyskanych wyników badań, powinno się zestawić otrzymane rezultaty badań na stanowisku tribologicznym do wyników uzyskanych na obiekcie rzeczywistym.

Paper presents the results of the study of the precision steam wear of the needle and the nozzle forming an integral part of the electromagnetic injector in the common rail feed system of the compression ignition engine. T-05 tribotester tests were used to evaluate the tribological properties of the roller-block system. The most important operational parameters have been identified, necessary to reflect the actual operating conditions. Based on the above. The guideline was a preliminary study to determine the main wear mechanisms and the moment of seizure, which allowed us to predict the durability of the examined friction node. The actual materials used in contact, ie high-speed tool steel (HS 6-5-2) and tool steel 100Cr6, were used for the study. In order to validate the obtained results, the results obtained at the tribological site should compared with the results obtained on the actual site.

This paper presents the analysis of costs and cost-efficiency of the repair of modern fuel injection systems in compression-ignition engines. The requirements for modern Diesel engines are low emission of toxic substances into the atmosphere and low fuel consumption. In order to meet the rigorous standards, the Common Rail fuel injection system has been implemented. By increasing fuel injection pressure to 200 MPa and introducing multi-stage dosing, engine designers have improved the process of air-fuel mixture combustion and engine ecological and economic parameters. The price for these changes is an accelerated wear of fuel injection equipment in modern CI engines. Regular fuel filter replacement and periodical cleaning of the systems would minimise the risk of damage. Unfortunately, most users do not comply with vehicle servicing times, and come to car repair shops only when a failure occurs, but then it is too late and the repair costs are high.

Rozwój ten był wynikiem rygorystycznych wymagań stawianych silnikom, związanych z dążeniem do ograniczenia ich szkodliwego oddziaływania na środowisko. During the recent several years, the fuel feeding systems of piston combustion engines have been undergoing an intensive development. It is directly linked to strict requirements to be met by engines, aimed at reducing their negative impact upon the natural environment. New constructional solutions in fuel feeding systems have been introduced in order to decrease the fuel consumption and emission of harmful components of exhaust gases. Failure-free and long operation of supply systems, and thereby meeting the requirements for engines, is strictly linked to their correct use and high quality of fuel. The paper contains a short characteristics of the Common Rail fuel feeding system, broadly used in modern Diesel engines. It also presents photographic documentation of damaged elements of the injectors, used in the Common Rail systems and it identifies the causes of damages. The major factor contributing to a faultless and long operation of Diesel engines with Common Rail injectors is the quality of fuel.

Article describes the operation issues of contemporary injection systems of Diesel engines. Common-rail system has been used since 1997, and since then there has been a significant evolution in its construction. In this aspect, there are changes in generations of high-pressure injection pumps and fuel injectors as well as methods of steering them, but exploitation problems are the same. The most prone to malfunction elements of the system are the fuel injectors. Their task is to distribute and to spray of the fuel in the combustion chamber of engine. Common Rail fuel injectors generate few injection dosages in the one work cycle. The rate of injection is depended on the design of the steering valve. One very important parameter of fuel injector is fuel injection delay time. If the time from control start of fuel injector to begin injection is shorter then it causes generation of greater number of injection dosages. Pollutants in fuel in the form of various amorphous solids of the size an even few microns cause the decrease of operating parameters of injector, which adversely affects the operation of the engine. Article shows contemporary fuel injectors, the methods of their examination, the types of fuel pollutants and their impact on fuel injector work.

This paper presents an analysis of the operation of modern Bosch Common Rail solenoid-controlled fuel injector of generation 2.5. This generation is the latest type of Bosch solenoid-controlled fuel injectors. The paper describes the operation of tested fuel injector, methods of its testing, verification of components and possible defects which may occur during operation. During the tests, the volume of fuel injection doses and return fuel doses was measured and the fuel injector was disassembled into individual components which were then tested using a specialist microscope.

W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki pomiarów przeprowadzonych dla oceny wpływu dodatku oleju rzepakowego do mineralnego oleju napędowego na pracę elektromagnetycznych wtryskiwaczy paliwa. Zgodnie z zaleceniami zawartymi w przepisach wprowadzane są bio-dodatki do paliw silnikowych. Rozwiązanie takie ma na celu ograniczenie wpływu wykorzystania paliw kopalnych na środowisko naturalne. Oleje roślinne znacznie szybciej ulęgają biodegradacji, co zmniejsza również ryzyko skażenia gleby i wód gruntowych w przypadku niekontrolowanych wycieków awaryjnych. Zastosowanie bio dodatków ma jednak wpływ na pracę układu zasilania i przebieg spalania paliwa w silniku. The paper presents the results of experiments carried out to investigate influence of rape oil addition to mineral diesel fuel on the work of electromagnetic fuel injectors. In accordance with requirements of EU regulations the bio fuel additives are introduced to the fuels used in combustion engines. Use of bio components is one solution to reduction influence of engine fuels on environment. Vegetable oils are biodegradable and its use reduce risk of contaminate soil and subsurface water in cause of uncontrolled leak. However, the addition of bio component to the diesel fuel influences the combustion process as well as the exploitation of a diesel engine. The physical parameters of mixture rape oil and diesel fuel have been compared with calibration fluid used in test stands. Comparative analysis of the changes in the injection fuel dose as a result of different fuel properties was carried out. The analysis of the test results has been performed in relation to the pressure of fuel outflow from the injector nozzle, and injection duration.
