Using the survey data of 45 tea enterprises in Fujian Province, China, this paper adopted fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to study the adoption of the sustainable production technologies by tea enterprises. The results show that there are two configurations for the path to achieve the adoption of high sustainable production technologies. The core condition combination of the first configuration is the existence of sustainable development capabilities, the degree of government support, and the resource and environmental endowment, while that of the second configuration is the existence of enterprise expected value, industrial organization mode and the resource and environmental endowment. Moreover, the path achieving non-highly sustainable production technologies adoption mainly summarized as a configuration. Specifically, the core condition is the absence of sustainable development capabilities, enterprise development strategies, and the resource and environmental endowments. Furthermore, some practical policy recommendations were put forward based on the above conclusions in this paper.

Korzystając z danych ankietowych 45 przedsiębiorstw herbacianych w prowincji Fujian w Chinach, w niniejszym artykule przyjęto jakościową analizę porównawczą zbiorów rozmytych (fsQCA) w celu zbadania przyjęcia zrównoważonych technologii produkcji przez przedsiębiorstwa produkujące herbatę. Wyniki pokazują, że istnieją dwie konfiguracje ścieżki prowadzącej do przyjęcia wysoce zrównoważonych technologii produkcji. Podstawową kombinacją warunków pierwszej konfiguracji jest możliwość zrównoważonego rozwoju, stopnia wsparcia rządowego oraz wyposażenia w zasoby i środowisko, podczas gdy druga konfiguracja to wartość oczekiwana przedsiębiorstwa, tryb organizacji przemysłowej oraz zasobów i dotacja środowiskowa. Ponadto ścieżka prowadząca do przyjęcia niezbyt zrównoważonych technologii produkcji została podsumowana głównie jako konfiguracja. Podstawowym warunkiem jest brak możliwości zrównoważonego rozwoju, strategii rozwoju przedsiębiorstw oraz zasobów i środków środowiskowych. Ponadto w niniejszym dokumencie przedstawiono kilka praktycznych zaleceń dotyczących polityki opartych na powyższych wnioskach.

Purpose: This study focuses on the causal mechanisms by which a series of organizational factors like commitment, communication, experience, dependence and trust collectively affect on the success of science-industry R&D cooperation. The purpose of this paper is to identify multiple paths of complex causal recipes that can lead to success of science-industry R&D cooperation. Design/methodology/approach: The study uses fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA), a technique that provides a holistic view of the examined interrelationships, compared to traditional net effect approaches that assume symmetric and linear relationships among variables. Findings: Results indicate that different causal paths, exactly five configurations, explain success R&D contracts. Particularly, the findings reveal that the availability of commitment and communication are important, sufficient conditions because they appear in at least three of the five configurations that result from the analysis. In this way, a series of conclusions and implications have been obtained that can be very useful, both in the academic world and when trying to lead and manage cooperation agreements. Research implications: A comprehensive theoretical model was developed and tested that identifies the organizational factors of the success of science-industry R&D cooperation. The presented model and comprehensive research using fs/QCA allows to overcome the fragmentation of this specialized literature. Practical implications: The results contain a number of practical recommendations that can be useful in the conduct and management of cooperation agreements. During the establishing and developing contract stages, it is recommended to design managerial and organizational mechanisms that ensure a high degree of commitment and communication in combination with experience (configuration number 1) and/or with dependences (configuration number 4). Originality/value: Vital value of this paper is the use of fs/QCA, a technique that is an important novelty, at least in the field of R&D cooperation relationships between companies and research organizations. This method allows testing the configuration of conditions in relation to a specific outcome (e.g. success of science-industry R&D cooperation) in a way that is not possible using a linear additive approach.

This study analyzes the impact of leadership style characteristics such as idealized influence-charisma, inspirational motivation, individualized consideration, intellectual stimulation, contingent reward and management by exception on project success in project9 based organizations. This paper argues that these factors simultaneously, in different configurations, affect project success. The data for the empirical analysis come from a survey 11 of 17 cases – Polish consultancies. This study employs a configurational approach, using fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fs/QCA), to assess the different combinations of mentioned factors.

This study examines the different contextual factors (previous cooperative experiences, the partners’ reputation, attraction capacity, a clear definition of objectives, proximity between partners and institutionalization) that, according to the literature, affect the performance of science-industry R&D partnerships. These factors are the preconditions of the contract that are the reference framework in which future relations between the partners are planned. The purpose of this paper is to discuss these factors and to present a causal model to explain how these contextual factors lead to the success of science-industry R&D cooperation. The analysis uses fs/QCA methodology, which allows identifying a combination of causes that lead to the outcome. Results support the argument that different causal paths (combinations of contextual factors) explain profitable R&D contracts.

The issue of business models is a current and more and more deeply analysed field of scientific research. However, despite the requirements of a solid and comprehensive research approach, capable of capturing the multidimensionality of business models, there is a continuous dissatisfaction with the conducted empirical research in this area. The aim of the article is to present the possibility of using the configurational approach and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fs/QCA) to business models research, which enables to conduct comprehensive, integrated analyses. The research was conducted on the basis of a group of 53 enterprises classified in the high-tech sector. The research provided an insight into the key and auxiliary elements of the selected business models, and the methods of their mutual interaction in the context of the configuration of these elements were monitored, at the same time providing insight into the equifinality of the configuration. The results may form the basis for a deeper discussion on the definition of business models and their core components.

The aim of this paper is to present the context of intellectual capital in rural area development using the example of fuzzy qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA), which is one of the few methodological innovations of recent decades and which bridges the gap between quantitative and qualitative research. Based on surveys and interviews with local organizations, the study examined the relationships between the results of work and the composition of variables that constitute intellectual capital components. The results, related to intellectual capital, were divided into three variables representing human capital (education, experience-years of work, language skills), structural capital (presence of IT system in an organization, the number of procedures and processes) and relational capital (the number of cooperating organizations, the number of NGOs in the community, the level of trust in the manager). The research outcomes showed that different combinations of intellectual capital components led in practice to the same result; nevertheless, human capital was an indispensable element of the combination.

The aim of this article is to present a fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis - fsQCA) as a methodological concept to evaluate the processes involving knowledge related to the rural development. Selected municipalities, where activities for local development are carried out in everyday work, were a case study. The analysis focuses on the process of knowledge transfer. Transfer is most complex of all processes involving knowledge. It contains several important elements that form a strong foundation for the organization efficiency, namely: knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing, dissemination of knowledge and knowledge sharing. On the effectiveness of this process depends largely the level of economic development of the area i.a: update information, faster decision-making, use the different external sources to finance various projects, innovative solutions implementation to acquire competitiveness of the area.
