The main purpose of the article is to present the transformation process of the urban complex known as the Imperial Shipyard in Gdańsk. Its rich history and interesting location on the waterfront of the city as well as its proximity to the very centre makes this area a much sought-after location for the new urban development project, which is part of the wider new district in the city centre of Gdańsk – the Young City. The article presents an outline of the proposed development concept in light of the history of the site and transformation processes of the entire district.

Głównym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie procesu transformacji zespołu Stoczni Cesarskiej w Gdańsku. Jej bogata historia oraz interesująca lokalizacja na froncie wodnym miasta oraz bliskość do jego ścisłego centrum czyni ten obszar niezwykle pożądanym obszarem lokalizacji nowego projektu miejskiego, stanowiącego część szerzej zakrojonej nowej dzielnicy śródmieścia Gdańska – Młodego Miasta. W ramach artykułu przedstawiono zarys koncepcji przekształceń obszaru w kontekście jego procesu rozwojowego oraz planowanych przekształceń.

The issue of the linearity of the waterfront based on the redevelopment of Lyon’s river banks

The article discusses the issue of the redevelopment of Lyon’s waterfront areas and long-term development strategy following the process of redevelopment. Owing to the large scope of the operations in question and a radically different approach to the problem of the revitalisation of the areas where the city and water meet, it is possible to conduct comparative analyses by pointing out specific factors, which determine the success of the enterprise. That is why it is reasonable to consider the latest example of redevelopment, which is that of Confluence, a post-industrial district of Lyon. The degree of activation of this peninsula can be related to various factors, which create the linearity of the waterfront.

Artykuł dotyczy problematyki rewitalizacji frontów wodnych Lyonu oraz związanemu z nią zagadnieniu liniowości nabrzeża. Dzięki dużemu zakresowi rozwiązań oraz diametralnie różnym podejściom do rewitalizacji styku miasta z wodą można przeprowadzić analizy porównawcze, wskazując konkretne czynniki decydujące o skuteczności inwestycji. W tym celu zasadne staje się odniesienie do najnowszego przykładu transformacji obszarów poprzemysłowych dzielnicy Lyonu, Confluence. Stopień aktywizacji tego półwyspu można stopniować względem czynników tworzących liniowości nabrzeża.
