Przedstawiono wagę ograniczenia spływu powierzchniowego na terenach dotkniętych działalnością człowieka. Omówiono też sposoby na zwiększenie retencji zlewni przez próbę maksymalnej redukcji spływu powierzchniowego w terenach moczarowych oraz małych zbiornikach retencyjnych.

The paper presents the meaning of limitation of the surface run-off from areas influenced by man's activity. There have been also discussed ways for increasing the retention of catchment areas by attempt at maximum reduction of the surface run-off from everglades and small retention reservoirs.

Prowadząc badania i obliczenia ilości transportu rumowiska unoszonego podczas wezbrania w przekroju wodowskazo-wym Stróża autor dochodzi do wniosku, że w okresie lat mokrych obserwuje się wzmożoną erozję powierzchniową zlewni górnej Raby. Pełne rozpoznanie tych zjawisk wymaga zagęszczonych lub ciągłych pomiarów zmąceń wody. Szczególnie istotne jest pobieranie prób wody w okresie wezbrań.

On the basis of the carried out investigations and calculations of the size of the floated rubble transported during the freshet in the water-level indicator cross-section Stroza the Author comes to the conclusion that during wet years the surface erosion of the catchment area of the upper Raba is particularly intensive. Full knowledge of those processes requires more frequent or even permanent measurements of the turbidity of water. Particularly important is sampling of water during the freshets.

Przedstawiono przebieg katastrofalnego wezbrania, jakie wystąpiło na górnej Wiśle w lipcu 1997 r. Oceniono przepływ kulminacyjny tego wezbrania w obszarze Krakowa. Wezbranie to - z uwagi na przepływ kulminacyjny, jak i objętość odpływu - należy zaliczyć do katastrofalnie wielkich, ustępujących w XX wieku jedynie wezbraniom z 1903, 1940,1970 i 1972 r. Omawiane wezbranie odznaczało się też powolnym, trwającym ponad miesiąc, opadaniem fali wez-braniowej; stąd też objętość odpływu lipca 1997 r. przewyższyła wielkością najwyższy ustalony dla tego miesiąca odpływ, jaki wystąpił w 1960 r.

The course of the catastrophic freshet which occured in the upper course of the Vistula in July 1997 has been presented. The culminant flow of that freshet in the area of Cracow has been estimated. The freshet - considering its culminant flow and the run-off volume -should be included among the catastrophic large ones and in the XX c. it was the fith largest freshet after the freshets in 1903, 1940, 1970 and 1977. The discussed in the paper freshet was characterized by a very slow process of decreasing of the rise wave which lasted more than one month. Therefore the run-off volume in July 1997 exceeded the hitherto maximum run-off which occured in July 1960.
