The paper presents the idea of Free Route Airspace, which allows users to plan a route between a defined entry point and defined exit point, with the possibility of routing via intermediate points. Thanks to implementation of FRA, which supposed to meet the efficiency, capacity and environmental challenges, solutions for airspace design, new airspace operating concepts and operational performance can be improved.
The concept of target function for calculating optimal trajectories and results related to an upper airspace capacity from computer simulations are presented in this paper. The basic model of Free Route Airspace (FRA), role of conflict free and efficient flight route planning as a part of introduction working programme – Step 2, “Trajectory – based Operations” in Single European Sky ATM Research Programme are also presented. Free Route Airspace is defined as specific airspace within which users shall freely plan their routes between an entry point and an exit point without reference to the ATS route network.

The main purpose of this paper is to approach and emphasise the role of conflict free and efficient flight route planning in Free Route Airspace (FRA) as a part of introduction working programme - Step 2, “Trajectory-based Operations” in Single European Sky ATM Research Programme. Free Route Airspace Concept comprises specific airspace within which users shall freely plan their routes between an entry point and an exit point without reference to the ATS route network. The concept of conflict free and efficient flight routes planning, basic model of FRA, target function for calculating optimal trajectories and results related to airspace capacity from computer simulations are also presented.

Głównym celem artykułu jest przybliżenie i podkreślenie znaczenia zagadnienia planowania bezkonfliktowych i wydajnych tras przelotu w przestrzeni swobodnie planowanych tras przelotu – FRA (Free Route Airspace). Zagadnienia te stanowią wprowadzenie do roboczego programu „Operacje w oparciu o trajektorie lotu”, realizowanego w ramach europejskiego programu badawczego SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research), będącego technicznym komponentem w tworzeniu Jednolitej Przestrzeni Europejskiej – SES (Single European Sky). W artykule przedstawiono uproszczony model przestrzeni FRA, zaproponowano algorytm wyznaczania bezkonfliktowych i wydajnych tras przelotu w oparciu o przyjętą funkcję celu uwzględniającą długość trasy, wysokość i prędkość lotu oraz wyniki przeprowadzonych symulacji.
