Determinants of professional success of representatives of selected professions in Poland and in France

The subject of the article is the analysis of determinants of professional success in the representatives of certain freelance jobs (i.e. journalist, a radio announcer, an artist, a specialist - consultant, a researcher and academic teacher) in Central and West European countries, in particular in Poland and France ,as well in the USA. The article attempts to achieve the answers to the following questions: What factors are considered to the objective and subjective determinants of professional success by people doing certain freelance jobs in Central and West European countries and in the United States? Are these most important determinants of professional success in the representatives of certain freelance jobs in Poland different from the most essential determinants pointed out in France? What factors could increase the quality of professional life at the same time increase the level of job satisfaction in the opinions of the representatives freelance jobs in Poland and France? In order to get answer to the above mentioned questions, a study was planned and carried out in two stages. The total number of 167 representatives of freelance positions Poland, France, Great Britain and the United States participated in the first stage. The study was carried out in July and August 2003. Its aim was to formulate by the respondents a list of the objective and subjective determinants of professional success. In the second stage, carried out in September 2003, 128 and 114 people doing freelance jobs from Poland and France respectively, took part in the study. The study led to the establishing of the most important determinants for both groups and to formulating the factors which could increase the level of job satisfactions in the participants in question. The results of the study showed that the job success determinants (i.e. outstanding professional achievements, high job prestige, high level of social respect and trust in their working environment) were considered to be subjective in France, while in Poland they were thought to be the objective ones.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza obiektywnych i subiektywnych wyznaczników sukcesu zawodowego u przedstawicieli wybranych, wolnych zawodów (dziennikarz, redaktor, plastyk, konsultant-specjalista). Celem artykułu było uzyskanie odpowiedzi na następujące pytania: 1. Jakie są deklarowane wyznaczniki sukcesu zawodowego wśród przedstawicieli wybranych wolnych zawodów w Polsce i we Francji? 2. Czy i w jakim stopniu osoby wykonujące wolne zawody w Polsce i we Francji różnią się miedzy sobą pod względem deklarowanych obiektywnych i subiektywnych wyznaczników sukcesu zawodowego? 3. Jakie czynniki mogą zwiększyć poziom jakości życia zawodowego? 4. Czy zmiany w zakresie najważniejszych wyznaczników sukcesu zawodowego i jakości życia zawodowego u przedstawicieli wolnych zawodów w Polsce i we Francji mają charakter względnie trwały, czy też są to chwilowe "wahnięcia" w zakresie preferencji? W celu uzyskania odpowiedzi na powyższe pytania przeprowadzono badania w III etapach. [...] Na podstawie wyników uzyskanych badań ustalono listę obiektywnych i subiektywnych wyznaczników sukcesu zawodowego. Badania przeprowadzano od lipca 2003 do kwietnia 2004 r.
