Content available remote News coverage of genetically modified organism in Vietnam1
EN
As developing countries are often science receivers, they are more vulnerable to potential threats of science innovations primarily produced in Western countries. It is, therefore, vital for media in the Global South to inform and prepare their citizens and policy makers in making rational decisions about new science developments, especially contested issues. Yet, news coverage of global science controversies -- e.g. genetic modification, nanotechnology, stem cell, human cloning, artificial intelligence -- have often been found to be weak and problematic in developing regions. Based on a content analysis of Vietnamese news about genetically modified organism (GMO), one of the scientific controversies with huge implications for sustainable development in the developing countries, this paper finds that that such reporting tends to be modest and superficial. It seldom provides thematic and detailed analysis of GMO risks and benefits with a strong evaluative and analytical dimension. Further, GMO events and issues are often positively framed with a benefit favour in accordance with the government's pro-GMO stance. For science journalism to reach it profession, a professional attitude should be encouraged in tandem with a strong support from the newsroom managers, scientific community, and policy makers. Training is further necessary for journalists to overcome challenges and obstacles to improve the quality of news about GMO and science in Vietnam.

The music industry has come a long way since its inception. Music producers have also adhered to modern technology to infuse life into their creations. Systems capable of separating sounds based on sources especially vocals from songs have always been a necessity which has gained attention from researchers as well. The challenge of vocal separation elevates even more in the case of the multi‐instrument environment. It is essential for a system to be first able to detect that whether a piece of music contains vocals or not prior to attempting source separation. It is also very much challenging to perform source separation from audio which is contaminated with noise. In this paper, such a system is proposed being tested on a database of more than 99 hours of instrumentals and songs. Experiments were performed with both noise free as well as noisy audio clips. Using line spectral frequency‐based features, we have obtained the highest accuracies of 99.78% and 99.34% (noise free and noisy scenario respectively) from among six different classifiers, viz. BayesNet, Support Vector Machine, Multi Layer Perceptron, LibLinear, Simple Logistic and Decision Table.

Proces skutecznego projektowania i tworzenia standardów projektowych wymaga wiedzy o preferencjach estetycznych ludzi. Do badań wybrano cztery charakterystyczne widoki miejsc o różnej rozpoznawalności w Zielonej Górze. W badaniach przedstawiono korelację pomiędzy zmiennymi rozpoznawalnością i średnią akceptacją badanego widoku. Analiza wyników badań statystycznych może być skutecznym sposobem weryfikacji parametrów krajobrazu miejskiego z poziomu lokalnego planowania.

The process of effective design and design standards requires knowledge of the aesthetic preferences of people. Although perception is momentary and subjective, it is the order and harmony of space that we owe to many years of rational and planned action. Previous research has allowed for the emergence of a number of expert evaluation models that rely on the measure of attributes selected objectively. Four distinct views of places of different recognitions in Zielona Góra were selected for the study. The studies show the correlation between the variables of recognition and the mean acceptance of the examined view. Analysis of statistical survey results can be an effective way of verifying urban landscape parameters from local planning.

Content available remote On the Validation of Invariants at Runtime
EN
The paradigm of contractual specification provides a transparent way of specifying object-oriented systems. In this paradigm, system consistency is specified using so-called invariants. Runtime validation of invariants is a complex problem. Existing validation methods require either exhausting validation of an invariant for all objects of the corresponding class or the use of restrictive type systems. In this paper a non-exhaustive method of invariant validation is proposed. It is proved that the method is sound and an implementation of this method is discussed. It is shown also how to extract context free languages corresponding to OCL-invariants.
